Decided to treat myself to a few nice new files. Anyone any recommendations as to a make or source of good quality files? Cheers Chris

Axminster power tools are cheapest for Vallorbe, still expensive though!

I just bought some of these from Axminster. What has turned up is F L Grobet not Vallorbe. I see they're Swiss so assume they're decent files? I haven't tried them yet.

I have Axminster ones. They have "FL Grobet Vallorbe Export" on them. I think Vallorbe in this context may be the town where they were made?

That'it. There are a few different trade marks (Grobet/Glardon etc) but they are made in Vallorbe and all seem to be marketed under the blue Vallorbe logo

Thanks Gents I'll keep them then. I haven't tried them yet as I think they're going to be wrapped up for the children to give me for my birthday. Better than socks:-)

Tome Feteira files, also made in Portugal are a good make and reasonably priced.

For small round files I have found the files sold for sharpening chain saws are pretty good. I think they are Sandvik and I got them in my local tool shop.

Chris One of my Xmas presents to myself was the five piece Vallorbe 8" 2nd cut set from Tradesmans Choice marked 'Grobet' arrived today. Allegedly half price at £44 odd! I have to say that they are fantastic, the bite so predictable that I have reserved them for brass only as I usually land up removing too much with my other (second rate) files! JB.

Excellent files but a bit expensive, especially when they offer the same files without handles for about £25. Wooden handles just cost pence. Russell.
