Thanks for the heads-up, much appreciated. I have always been a follower of the locomotive and, until recently, supportive.
My enthusiasm was numbed a little when I travelled to see it at NRM York in black and it was not there. I perceived the NRM conned me into an entry contribution (albeit voluntary) - the website inferred FS would be there after the weekend, but did not exactly say it would! Many others were taken in at the same time - nearly a riot and much dischuftness.
I understand many preservationists are now calling it "Flying Moneypit." This is a little unkind, but I can see their point in that this kind of money could have been spread more beneficially over various other projects.
There has been plenty of comment on the competence of NRM to run this project. It will be interesting to see the prog and I will definitely watch it. Thank you.

Thanks Pete,
Monday night - Steam Tuesday night - Modern; I've been enjoying the series 'Keeping Britain on Track.'
The super-heater will have to wait...

Mutter, mutter, mutter The thing that really annoys me is the fact that these shows can't be seen on line out here as we're are "Out of the zone" despite being able to see all programme details on the BBC2 site. Jim

Jim I have a similar problem at work; I like to read the BBC news website. Although based in the UK I work for a US company who moved our server location to the US. Seems it was easier to spy on our emails and make sure we are all PC. This resulted in the browser always opening the international BBC news website and the most annoying part having advertisements on the page as well
I never got round to this as I found not reading the news kept my BP below a 100 so it had its advantages. But I was told round the office cooler that the way round this was to get a proxy server in the UK. I was also told that you can also get round it using the chrome web browser. Don’t know if it works but a cursory search this morning brought up plenty of advice including a tutorial on YouTube.

This is a little unkind, but I can see their point in that this kind of money could have been spread more beneficially over various other projects. Usual story, If they'd done the job properly in the first place, it would have cost less. Why were the wheels not checked before fitting, resulting in the cost of removal, rectifying, refitting and two lots of transport extra? Why were the frame stretchers not NDT'd the first time round? I might watch it, if I'm not busy doing something else.

Really enjoyed the programme Pete, thanks for pointing it out. I went on a railtour with FS roundabout 1970 from Kings X to Leicester and back.

Hi guys I enjoyed it too, I love seeing old film from the 20/30's, shame there wasn't a little more rather than the two tender shots but all in I found it a great programme. Of course it's been added to my archives for future reference... Regards Pete

Hi Julian Would you be surprised to hear that I already own it... It's brilliant for me although I have to laugh at the film set of the cab and tender front they made for certain scenes....I guess the director decided to shoot from different angles to what had be agreed with the art director and crew as it's obvious that there is no side sheet on the other side when looking towards the tender front section... None of this takes anything away for the reference material that is there for all to see... top stuff.... Pete

If anyone missed it the programme is being repeated tonight at 11.20. There was some excellent archive footage but I felt the programme was spoiled by some 'howlers' in the script. Did you know that, according to the narrator, it was Britain's first Pacific? So the NER's Raven Pacifics must be a figment of my imagination then! As for Churchward's famous comment " what did that young man (Gresley) want to build a Pacific for? We could have sold him ours (The Great Bear)." Well worth watching but not to be taken as factual! Just my 2p worth. Ray.

Andrew That's even smaller than Petes loco. Shows what a marvellous loco it was if you could time a full size train on that size grate.

Constant references to 'British Rail' when it should have been 'British Railways' Mumble mumble. Apart from that, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Richard

The footage of the engine at the British Empire Exhibition in 1924 was very interesting, but there was no mention of it being upstaged by the GWR product next door!

The footage of the engine at the British Empire Exhibition in 1924 was very interesting, but there was no mention of it being upstaged by the GWR product next door! The next still showed an advertisement for 'The Great Northern Railway' above Stirling Single No1 which strongly suggests it was from a previous exhibition !! Ray.
