A bit late in the day I've realised that I can't make out where the output from the tender hand pump on my Torquay Manor enters the boiler. The injector and crosshead pump feed via non-return valves each side of the safety valve but how about the hand pump? My Speedy and Mechant Navy both have hand pumps feeding through non-return valves on the backhead but Martin Evans omitted to provide a bush on the Manor backhead to accomodate such a valve. Does it mean that I have to join the hand pump pipework to that of the the crosshead pump?

Keith,
My opinion for what it is worth would be connect via the crosshead pump, I have heard of people feeding via the bottom of the gauge glass but personally I believe this is fraught.

Hi Keith I always feed my hand pump through an axel pump. It saves having to put a seperate bush in the boiler and would allow you to check that you haven't got any sticking clack valves on the crosshead pump.
