Hi there Probably a query for Andy to answer, I was just having a browse round the buttons on this site and having a look at the membership. I tried to view the 'top posters' but received a message saying 'due to the size of this forum this is not available at this time'. Is this just a temporary glitch or have we now reached the size where the feature will not work? It's not of earth shattering importance but part of the problem, if it is due to registered numbers, could be attributed to both multiple registration of members and long dormant types. I understand that some people are content to read only but it is a pity if the multiple entry issue couldn't be resolved. Now I'm off outside to my workshop to make better use of my spare time while it's light etc Cheers Brian

Yup, me as well. While we're on the subject, anyone wanna lay any bets against me being first to 500?

Version 4 of the board allows a maximum of 1000 members for the Top Posters feature. After that it no longer works. Apparently version 5 can cater for more members.

Maybe the answer is for members to check and see if the have dupicate accounts and then see about removing duplicate accounts. Is it possible to publish a list of dormant accounts so people can see things that maybe that have forgotten etc I know this may take the number of registered persons below the magic 1000 mark but at least we would have a more accurate figures.

Martyn,
if you click on the 'Forgot Your Password' on the login page it takes you to another page. If you enter your old username or email address there and click 'Retrieve Password' you should get an email back telling you the password. You can then logon, go to your profile, and delete the account. There's probably one or two with that problem.

I have 2 or 3 dormant accounts on here! When we had to re-register in May 2005, I found I couldn't use my AOL account. No matter what I did, I couldn't register. Even with Andy's help (and Tel's too), nothing worked, and I had to re- register using GMail.
If we know our unused account names, isn't there a way those accounts could be deleted by the Staff?

I have 2 or 3 dormant accounts on here! When we had to re-register in May 2005, I found I couldn't use my AOL account. Geoff (in soggy Cornwall) I too have a dormant account I would be glad to delete - if I could! But having followed the 'lost password' approach recorded elsewhere, I have received a response that my password has been e-mailed to the address I gave at the time. Trouble is, I couldn't get the system to recognise any address available to me then so that registration was never consummated, so to speak(!) In the end I followed the hint to try Hotmail and created an email account specially for that purpose, but that necessitated a new ID as the old one was still there. The addresses I tried included a Compuserve account which may suffer the same way as AOL, and another, so it seems that people in a similar situation of having attempted and failed to complete a registration will still have an unwanted and useless entry and will not be able to use self help to resolve the problem. If it is possible by any other means then I'm very happy to see 'bobpen' deleted as a member. Hope these notes shed some light on the situation. Bob Pendleton
