not really, thanks. i would much rather see pics of stuff you've made than countless pics of your workshop and equipment.

Seems like a reasonable follow-up to the earlier thread about choosing the DRO in the first place.

Hi Seaco
I also brought and fitted the same DRO to my mill, an Elliot Victoria Omnimill. For the price it is an excellent piece of kit, and begs the question...how did I manage without it before?

Exactly how I feel now Digger it's a great bit of kit and worth every penny it's transformed the mill...

OK guys, I have a confession to make---------- "Uncle Hagley" has been seduced by this >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> www.chestermachinetools.com/830vs-turret-mill-3988-p.asp <<<<<<<<<<<<<<< and will be looking to purchase about this time next year PLUS...impressed with the cost/performance of the DRO kit as featured---will be adding that on as well............So, by about that time you should be able to give me the benefit of approx. 12 months' use SEACO ??.....

Excellent! A really nice installation, let the fun begin! I had bought a DRO for Julian's Christmas present this year too, I guess I'd better send it back. :-) I don't think Julian is alone in thinking that time spent on workshop equipment and niceties is time better spent on a locomotive. Personally, I enjoy both but get more pleasure from the locomotive side of things if the workshop is as good as the locomotive. Each to their own.

You aren't boring me. Well done, you won't regret it. Had a heart stopping moment yesterday, I thought mine had gone wrong. Turned out the plug was loose.

Pity of it is I'm a "bad, bad boy"-------lucky for her !!!................it's to replace a bench mounted version of this ( albeit a NAEROK VERSION ) that will soon be up for sale....I've got two sets of 5"g loco mainframes to mark off and could also do with a longer table anyway, and that "Dial-in" spindle speed means no more belt swapping as well ( trying to think of more "Justifiable causes" to drain my bank account !!)>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Attachments:

Oh well, you can't have it all. That's quite a neat little machine really but you'll find the one you're looking at buying a completely different animal when it comes to the stiffness. I'm not sure you'll have enough X-axis travel to do the frames on a 5" gauge loco though. I did mine in three setups because I wanted to do the whole of the critical central section in one operation. I could just about reach the whole thing in two setups if I'd chosen that route. I reamed the brake hanger holes to give a good registration at a later date, but now realise that I should have done the same with the buffer mounting holes being the furthest apart. You can bet that you'll need to put the frames together at some point so why not make the registration almost foolproof? My way of thinking is that you spend as much on engineering tools and equipment as you can else it only get's wasted on something else.

Hi Matey !!------------X is given as 470mm so two bites at the frame cherry will be the order of the day, methinks..
