Hi chaps, the seal as blown on one of sight glasses. These days whats the best sealer to use.michael

O rings or rings cut from rubber tube, depending on the original design and space in the nuts.
NOT sealant of any sort such as bath caulk.
The nuts only net to be finger tight

Hello, rings made from PTFE rod also works well, aspecially where space between glass and nut thread is tight.

Hi matey------- final tightening when you next raise steam and, as per Andy just a nip ( enough to stop any weeping at running temp, and pressure. ).........Just a thought but why not take the opportunity and fully remove the old glass, seals etc and using a metal rod of the same glass diam. check for alignment between the upper and lower fittings as this can cause leaks and breakages.......... ??

Well in the end I made up two washers from ptfe bar.all ok on that front now.thanks.michael
