I'll be heading over to Sandown on Friday with a good buddy of mine so it would be good to say put a few faces to names if you're going along then too. I thought I'd make up a little name badge with the 'Model Engineering Clearing House' logo so you can see when to duck behind a pillar, but it's not going well. So far it's to big I'll have to wear it as sandwich boards. At least you won't miss me!

That's very kind John, but ours were purchased long ago. I'm sure someone will claim it.

Hope to be there Friday, weather permitting.
I'll be wearing the badge.
May I suggest a meeting near the entrance at 12?

Oh well, I've finally sorted out one along the lines of an Exhibitors badge with the banner borrowed from the top of this site so that will have to do. Do say Hi if you spot me.

Hi.is sandown a good show.from their web site it looks like there will not be many traders or club stands. But there is something about a 5 inch stirling locomotive being there with the builder.if thats the case I would like to talk to him, as I am having a hell of a job with my stirling build.michael

It's not a big show and I wouldn't travel that far to attend. Those Stirling Engine guys seem to attend all the events I've ever been to so I'll be amazed if they're not there. They were at the Midlands and Alexandra Palace, Ascot and Sandown if I remember rightly.

Thanks roger.think I will give it a miss then.michael Maybe you could start a thread about your Stirling woes, I'm sure there will be some helpful information that comes out of it. I made one at Secondary School and it didn't work even though it was well made. The Metalwork teacher didn't grasp the concept and I think it didn't work because the wall thickness was so great on the displacer cylinder that it conducted the heat along it far too quickly. The flywheel was also supposed to be heavy but he insisted that it was made as an Aluminium casting. I learned a lot in the process, but it was a pity it was a failure.

My woes wiith the stirling mainly lay in two areas.the first being the axle pump feed and return routes.there is just so little room between the frames, or around the driving wheel.the second area is the lack of movement space for the front bogie. I have added a bit of weight to the locomotive to aid traction, but the reason for the build is that I just like the look of the thing.michael

Excuse my ignorance Terry, I thought you were talking about a Stirling Engine as in one working on the Stirling Cycle... Doh!

Just be careful what list of traders you look at, there are several errors in the lists depending on where you look - Website, MEW, ME printed and ME digital. Not all traders on some of the lists will be there.
I did ask for an upto date list to be put on the website but no sign of one yet.
J
PS I'll be there Friday

no Roger this is the stirling loco. a bit of a pain at the moment. The list of traders and clubs at sandown is very small going by their web site. as its a 200 mile round trip I don't think it worth the fuel cost.I hate London anyway. michael

I certainly wouldn't travel 200 miles for the exhibition, it's not that far from us near Gatwick so it's worth a look. I'll keep an eye out for any Stirlings though and ask about the pipe routing and the front bogie movement if I see one.
