Hi All
Most of you all would have seen my advert "Are you prepard for the new season" in the other section. I am trying to get a feel of it weather or not its a good idea and would people be interested main the people who don't have all the equipment.
You have your car serviced what about your steam engine.
Please can you leave a feedback will be very welcome
cheers Simon

Hi Simon
I can't make out whether this is a business or 'pleasure' opportunity? The advert section does say no business postings please, the price you are quoting may put some off I don't know. Too much for me and I'm too far away anyway!
The chaps on this site all seem to be pretty 'hands on' and practical types so you may be missing your target clientele.
Cheers
Brian

I think the idea is OK as some people buy their engines and may not have time for repair and service , but I agree with spurley that it should be in personal for trade page .

Personally, I doubt that it is viable. (But could easily be wrong!)
The majority of model engineers enjoy playing around with their engines and also preparing for the season is a good way of learning about them, checking for impending faults, and making sure all is well.
In most clubs, those who dont want to do anything mechanical will find a member who is skilled, experienced and has plenty of spare time who will be only too willing to lend a hand.

I see why it is felt that simon should put his adverts in the trade section, but i feel duty bound to stick up for him as i was the vulture that deprived him of his own loco just before christmas when he was feeling the pinch a little. when I last spoke to simon he was working towards making a bit of money to put into a new project, using machines loaned to him by a friend.I suppose it still counts as trade as its trying to make money but there a hobbyist behind all this, If you dont believe me give him a ring, he rings me to see how his engine is and making sure im not mucking up all of his good work so far! (he is getting worried that i wont send him any photos)

Personally I have no objection to anyone trying to earn a crust, and many model engineers supplement their income / pension with their hobby. As we all know, it is an expensive hobby so anything that reduces the cost and helps others is often welcomed. Whether or not that constitutes "trade" is another matter, but IMHO, not a serious issue.
I'm just not convinced that this particular idea is a good one.
