Hi guys I have almost finished by 5" ruston type loco and I am thinking of what I could use in line with the motor to stop the electric being generated from free wheeling going back into the speed controller I was thinking of a diode but carnt seam to get one to take the amperage any ideas? Thanks Andrew

I use a diode on my electrics and not had an issue. Brought mine from eBay. I think it was 5 for £1.20

Thanks Andrew It's probably not the ampereage taking it out but the peak inverse voltage (PIV). Make sure that whatever you're using for a diode is at least 200 PIV. The spikes something like that will generate are right up there - 50 PIV may not be enough. Also figure that 2X the current draw of the motor is a good rule of thumb for the diode - and diodes in general are cheap as chips anyway so don;t be afraid to go something a bit bigger than the minimum requirement. AH the joys of an EE degreee I don't use anymore...
