Having used up my last emery board on small job and contemplating buying some new ones I noticed the good wife filing her nails and so came the idea of using hers instead. ;D These nail files come in a vast array of grits and sizes. You can buy flexible ones and I have just borrowed her nail polisher as it is great for polishing copper/brass, it is approx 3"x 1 1.2"x 1" and has for grades of grit on each side, the finest being as smooth as glass. She tells me they only cost about £0.60 each and the polisher around £3. ( May raise a few eyebrows if you try to buy them yourself though ). ACE

I do it the other way round: use my filrs to do my nails. Since they are larger at least I find them back...
Look if I care. You should have seen the stare I got when I asked for a 3mm reamer in a metalware shop. "What do you want? A reamer? What's that? Maybe xxx knows what that is, he is here for soo long..." He knew what it was, but "we don't have that tool here since 1969".

Ace,
You can make them!
As well as the essential lathe/drill/milling machine I've also found a cheap(ish) wood band saw and linisher with sanding disc very useful. These extra tools allow one to cut a thin strip of tree wood to which one glues a choice of wet or dry.
I found good old PVA did the job even on the waxy backing although I did roughen the surface. Once dry the linisher allows for a general tidy-up of the edges.
So, that's 60p in the bag.
Also, the sanding disc is great for tidying metal edges and it's a doddle to get a nice true edge,
