Might explain why a very rusty part finished one has just sold on ebay for £40

Can't say if a forum member finished one, but I did see one running (or at least assembled, it was a long time ago!) at a Modelworks open day in Sutton Coldfield.

Here's a photo that I took of it at that event: Regards, John

Thank you jj for the photo - most helpful.
Winson apparently based the General, in 5 inch scale, on LBSC's Virginia in 3.5 inch scale.
A comparison of the drawings and dimensions, prompted by a request from a forum member, is interesting.
Briefly, the chassis lengths of the Victoria and the General are the same within one sixteenth.
The chassis lengths of the tender are the same.
Truck and tender wheels are near enough the same diameter for both models.
Wheelbases are approx the same.
The large wheels on Virginia are approx 4 inch diameter, on the General they are 5 inch
With a common wheelbase, the outer edges of the wheels are closer together on the General.
It would appear that the General is basically a Virginia to the same overall length, with larger main wheels, but just stretched sideways from 3.5 to 5 inch.
I hasten to add this is just the initial opinion of a novice, so I stand to be corrected.

No need to start a new thread as this on is headed info.
Winson fitted Viton balls in their clacks on the Britannia. This is described in my assembly manual. Does anyone know where to buy them from in the UK ?

G S Supplies in Somerset stock Nitrile balls - I am using them in the clacks on my Winson 9F with no problems.

Thanks Eddie. I too have nitrile ones and wanted to see if I could get the Viton ones. I have found a commercial outlet. Bit expensive but I might have a bash at them.
