Bit of a long shot but does anyone have a set of build instructions for the Winson/Modelworks 5" Prairie or has actually built one? I'm rebuilding one that has been modified to a 2-6-0 tender loco (psuedo Mogul). GWR MogulThe valve gear is a mess. The eccentric rods are far too long and the eccentrics are set completely wrong on the driving axle. I'm wondering if the position of the eccentrics was preset from the factory e.g by having predrilled dimples for the grub screws (as on the Polly kit locos), or if they had to be set once the valve gear was complete? The eccentrics on this loco have taper pins through the eccentrics and axle to lock them in (the wrong!) position. Another problem is that the eccentric throw is too short! John

Hi John,
Just noticed your item on the Modelworks Prairie - how are you travelling in its construction - particularly with the link motion? I see that Station Road Steam have a kit at present and was keen to see if the usual kit dramas can be overcome. I am part way through building a Winsons 9F and oddly enough quite enjoy sorting out the problems with the kit items or building parts which were missing.
Look forward to hearing from you.
