And I have never heard of a lin bin before... so details or a picture would be appreciated.
My knees are starting to complain at stooping down to pick up small parts, but if my eyesight gets much worse I will just have to forget them and make another because finding things gets harder all the time!

Hi Malcolm regarding seeing things, try one of these, www.craftlights.co.uk/acatalog/New_Products_Coming_In.html I have tried numerous lamps, visors and glasses over the years but these are excellent. they come with a range of lenses and have two bright LED lights, they are lightweight and very easy to use, if you want to look without using the lens just glance over it like you would with a pair of reading glasses. They are good money too at less than £30. the company will be at Ally Pally where I'm sure they will be cheaper. I bought mine from them at the Midlands show last year for £25 Cheers Pete

I spent the afternoon in the Club house sorting out our display items for the "Ali Pali" Show. Much reduced stand this year with only small and light items. We have managed to use two normal vehicles instead of a Ford Transit Van. No Traction engines or 7.25 in scale locos as it is just not worth the cost or effort . Also members just do not want to thrash into Central London from the outer M25 area. Hopefully we will have enough Stewards (and passes when we arrive tomorrow.)

I would offer but I can't as I don't know what I'm doing from one day to the other these days...lol Pete

Read more: modeleng.proboards.com/thread/10766/today?page=172#ixzz5coG3kenJThanks Pete, I do have a reasonably good magnifying visor with LED lighting which is great for very close work - I used it constantly doing the lining with the lining pen. But the transition from close up work with small parts to searching the (dusty, cluttered) floor for the same little so-and-sos when I have dropped them means … taking off the visor, putting on my glasses, deciding which part of the varifocal to look through, giving up and taking them off again, putting them down and not being able to see where I put them..... you get the idea. No single gadget is going to solve all those problems! Malcolm

I chose glasses that are not very tall so that I can peer over the top of them without having to slide them down my nose or take them off. This means that for very close work, I can get up really close and peer over the top and see small things really close up and in focus. I do find that a 'cheater lens' in the welding mask helps though.

So Pearl grips and a lin bin.... I know what a lin bin looks like. What do pearl grips look like? 4 Jaw pearl grips. The fluorescent pink tape is so I know which they are in my desk tidy with all my jewelers screwdrivers.
The screw is 10ba. They will hold 16ba without any bother.

Thanks for that pointer Mike, I've just ordered these from eBay. (NB:- I've just received one and it only has 3 prongs, even though the picture clearly shows 4) I've used similar things on flexible pick up tools, and it's very similar to the connectors you have on old Multimeters, but I've never seen them in this form before. I think they will be very useful in holding small screws for getting the threads started or just generally picking tiny things up.

Mike and Roger. Thank you very much. I’ll be adding the pear grips to my tool chest. Good call.

I got pulled over by the law today for no road tax.
My van was impounded and I have now sorted it out and got it home again.
The garage I bought it from didn't inform DVLA that i was the owner and I have not been getting reminders. No excuse I know.
Just giving a heads up to check your renewals.
Pete.

That's one of the problems when we no longer have tax disc's as there's no reminder sent..i think but not sure, but think you can set up an e-mail reminder, probably not of much help when you've just bought the vehicle?

I'm sorry for you, its so easy for this to happen now theres no paper tax discs. When there was a piece of paper in the windscreen, its was obvious if there was or wasn't valid tax on the vehicle, and a constant reminder each time you walked past it. It happened to a friend a couple of years ago, but the policeman told him to get it sorted (which it was within the hour) but the next time he saw it it would be impounded. Impounding straight away seems a bit harsh to me.

Pete It is a bummer when it is a genuine mistake. Ref other comments about reminders. DVLA send a paper reminder about 3 weeks before it is due, always have done for me automatically, no setting things up? Dave

"The garage I bought it from didn't inform DVLA that i was the owner"
No change of owner registered so the reminder went to the last owners address!. Get the garage to pay the fines!
Reminders do get sent automatically to the current registered owner.

A couple of days ago, actually. After many years (30??) of service, the flat drive belt on my old Drummond finally gave up the ghost. A replacement was duly ordered and delivered, and I had enough 'alligator' clip to join it up. See if this one lasts so long.
