Looking lovely Alan. Yes rod crownstays are the way to go with Jessie's boiler coming with them. It is very difficult to get inside and have solder go where it is needed with Plate stays. Rods each one is easy!! Had 2 days off??? Never just fancied making some odd bits of display track rails to go under the Hunslet... Then did some RSJ for another Project that had lost its Speedy first year!!!
David and Lily.

ibb.co/9pt4BKDShows one of my last jobs of the day on the base of the retaining wall behind the walk round on the Workshop extension. The bucket gives a sense of scale of digging needed. This initially will provide storage for loads from the garage while the outer wall is insulated. The front insulating project seemed to upset the Gas supply company when our consumption went down over the Winter?? I was so tempted to do a piped bypass for the photo of the meter when they requested one!! Every house in Tilehurst built by Cooks is the same as I have looked over the original drawings which a friend discovered in theirs. For behind the tiles are blocks laid on their sides making a solid cold wall that can't be insulated. ibb.co/Tk5wjRFShows Lily's new passion clearing swarf from various machines which helps enormously... I had a lovely set up for a photo in our Club Magazine Swarf in just the right amount and the part just done. Lily swoops as I grab the camera. We had to make do with convincingly sprinkled!!! Even sweeter if you sneak over the fence and pick the strawberries from a neighbours garden

This faithful old gadget was retrieved from the bike shed and is working very nicely thank you! Jan has a v. posh big Dyson fan which is glamorous but largely ineffective, and I think cost just as much as this did 15 years ago! I bet it won't last as long either... John

lucky you John..... I wanted to test 4472's brakes today, everything is made, just needs final assembly, adjust and test but I think it's far too hot today, perhaps tomorrow during the thunderstorm if I get home early enough from my hospital appointment.

Hi John,
Your beer is in the wrong place - it should be in the outflow of the cooler unit!!

ibb.co/443k5P0Fitted a pair of Outer brackets to the Motion Brackets of Jessie. HOT outside was not the word for it. We are double insulated and Double glazed to better than the house so can Hacksaw during the afternoon. 3.00 and Lily gets the fan on. Several openings of the door has let the heat in!!! The brackets hold the Expansion Link so have to be in line. (See Jessie for more Photos) Got to sort out the 5BA tap box with tapping size drill etc. In desperation got the box of all new number Drills out and counted down from 50 out in the stand... 51 to 60 stay in the box. The stand looks nice in Matt Black with silver numbers. Gold drills just to show off. David and Lily. My new socks were a bit tight so Lily machined a bit off then sewed the edges. Very comfortable. Old boots worn in places so need socks!!!

Did Lily use the mill to machine the bit off your feet to fit the socks? It is a good job she has taken to cleaning your machines the mill must have been messy after 🤣

Glad to see you are using the filing buttons the way I was taught to use them - retained on a pin (in your case a drill) but free to rotate, so the files just runs over the surface, rather than trying to take the teeth off on a piece of glass-hard silver steel.

One of those Mornings when you have to phone and choose from the following menu........... 3 operatives later "They will have to send someone round to sort it out!!! Then 48 minutes down I have a go with another company... With Multiple offices. The third office somewhere in Liverpool sorted it all out.
LUNCH and it was TOO HOT to sit in the Garden.
2 outstanding bits while the frames are seperate are the Exhaust connectors bolted into the cylinders from inside. And the Guard irons. These I have pondered and decided to extend into full width angles front and back. I have seen several Locomotives come off and it is not a pretty sight.
David Avoiding the telephone for at least a week. And Lily resting from a day of assisting.

For me it was designing a pair of guard irons that prevent the Loco diving into the track should she come off. Without any more holes so the the Pretty set can be put in place in the future for display etc.
I cut out instead a pair of Exhaust Flanges and got them to fit in the holes. Drill and eventually transfer the locations of the Exhaust holes as they are different each side!!! I didn't machine the Cylinders. Chapter and verse in my Jessie section.

I tried running my william on air to test the water pump pipework. One piece in the side tank was a real pig to fit, and guess what... cracked the solder joint on one of the fittings so its all coming out again... at least the pump seems to work.

The dial on my leadscrew handwheel had started to slip. It is intended to be able to move, but it was moving if I turned the handwheel too fast.
I took it off, stripped it down, cleaned it up and was trying to re-insert the phosphor-bronze spring when it flew off - right into the middle of my metal rack.
So I have spent the last hour taking all the metal out of it. (It's amazing how many things I have that I had forgotten about!)
Found the spring, re-assembled it and the lathe is now back in action. Phew.
