Isn't it amazing the way things always land where they will be hardest to find?

Hi Nobby,.... the cracked solder joint}-------Better now than later in front of an "Admiring" audience down at the club, eh ??...........Nil Desperandum as they say. Meanwhile I've managed to get the 2nd new wheel assy modified and fitted.....Now I can see just how high the chassis will ride with regards to buffers and coupling.........4 spare wheels going for £0 if you like ??

Not sure if I can see the difference other than they look much better than the whitewall tyres though!

Well, the new ones are bigger and have holes in them? Wagon builders such as Gloucester Carriage and Wagon seemed to like painting the faces of the wheel rims white for their works photos, but I don't think the purchasers maintained this after delivery.

Finished machining third, and final, new axle for tender wheelsets.
Fitted first wheel on the press, all ok.
Started to press on second wheel. Spotted too late that it had picked up on the axle and on removal of the wheel the tear is dead centre on the journal seat.
Started making fourth new axle...

Dan

I spent today and the last few days drilling and tapping dozens 7BA holes in a rather old Stuart Triple Steam engine. (This I had bought as a pile of assorted bits from a late members estate via my club.) Sorting through my BA taps and dies I found one very old and knackered 7BA taper tap and no die! Fortunately a quick phone call to another club member who builds Stuarts and he sorted me out a set of S/H 7 BA taps and a die. (We have loan ones in the Club house, but that is off limits for an indefinate period. It is very stressful when you only have one set of taps and they are of a small size, but so far I have not yet broken one. The 7 BA nuts and studs that came with the bits were just a pile of rust, but hopefully having been soaked in oil will still suffice. Everything is now coated in a fine dust of cast iron and anything magnetic is growing whiskers! It came with one bent and part machined crankshaft, so my next job will be to fabricate one.

Made a large bolognese sauce to go with the speghetti and my wife insisted in putting bacon in it. This was supposed to be about six portions to freeze for the two of us. Tasted like badly soldered Pincess Royal beading so all going in the bin, just horrible. Back to my recipie I did for my kids when I was divorced and living alone. Once alone, went to the second hand bookshop and bought a great book on cooking, been my friend for years! Learnt to cook then, when will these wives stop interferring??? David

When I first started this "quickie" project I think I must have had the perennial Airfix tanker in mind........ As this won't be an Esso vehicle I'll paint the wheel sets all Black.......... I did mention earlier on that the new wheel sets were larger in order to lift the whole chassis up higher and for the buffers to now meet other wagons that I have..

Oh no! That picture has set off the advertising jingle, which is now going round and round in my head. It's for paraffin and goes:
Blue blue blue blue blue blue blue-blue, Esso blue Esso, Esso, blue blue blue blue blue. Blue blue blue blue blue blue blue-blue, Esso blue Esso, Esso, blue blue blue blue blue. Blue!

I could have eaten it for you! Onions, garlic and bacon go in mine to make the initial sauce. Then minced beef, , black pepper, oregano, then mushrooms. Tinned tomatoes and finally puree to thicken it. Basil leaves on top to serve. Like you it was a recipe I found when on my own 20 years ago and the kids have loved it ever since and so do the grandkids. I had some lamb steaks in the freezer so did a Rogan Josh for the first time last week. Went down very well. Pete.

Wilf’s recollection of the add reminds me of the schoolboy joke about paraffin inspired by their adds
What has three bums and keeps you warm?
Bum, bum,bum ESSO blue!
Although I expect ESSO meant it to be boom not bum!

Oh it gets better - the insert on my turning tool chipped tonight and I don't have a spare. At least it was only on a light cut to set the DRO diameter, so a couple of days wait to get replacements. More paint stripping on the chassis then and I'll sort out a photo update tomorrow. You're right about the collet chuck - very simple and don't have to worry about getting it back in the three jaw s-c chuck in the same place! Regards, Dan

Had a little time in the workshop over the past 2 evenings and have just about finished the bodies for the Mild Pop safety valves that I started while NZ was in lockdown in April. I just need to machine the outside of the bodies for a hexagon for the spanner

Hello all,
Regarding my Water Bowser project}-------- Sometime soon I'll need to de-rust and internally seal the actual steel container itself......It's been a while since I've done this sort of thing and even then it was sealing a motorcycle tank against Ethanol rather than water....
So, can you good folk suggest a suitable commercially available product ??........... bearing in mind that this water bowser will be supplying the injectors on my locos so must be free from any floating particles etc...
I seem to remember "phosphating" was involved ??? ..
Many thanks in anticipation,
Alan
PS}---- just a thought--- maybe the anti-Ethanol product would seal against water as well ??
