Had my first State Pension payment today.
Cor! More than I thought. They told me some weeks back what I would get but I didn't know they had already taken the 20% tax out of it.
Well pleased!
Pete.

That's interesting Pete, as they normally adjust your tax code (by deducting the amount of the state pension from your allowances) so you actually pay the tax on your state pension against any other income (such as an occupational pension). As the personal tax allowance is normally bigger than the state pension, if you don't have an occupational pension, you wouldn't pay tax.

Yesterday was our new puppy pick up day! Had travelled down country & stayed over night with friends, then 10 o’clock we got to meet Molly for the first time! She’s a wired haired fox terrier, then it was head home, her 2nd only trip in a vehicle. 5 1/2 hours latter we made it home! Today we were reminded how much time a puppy can use up in your day! So far so good! Now the training begins....... so I’m told! Trouble is I’m not sure who’s getting the training.......... Cheers Kerrin I drove to the wilds of Norfolk to pick up Dio. 2 years later he has just about got me trained 20181014_121502 by Sigma Projects, on Flickr 20190825_143422 by Sigma Projects, on Flickr I liked your post, Andy... if we had 'love' symbols on this forum like on FB I'd have used that.... lovely puppy... It is outrageous to have to pay tax on your pension, day light robbery!!! Jem Back in the '70s my gran had a pension from her years working as a midwife. It was taxed at the top rate 80%? as it was classified as "un earned income"

We have one sink and two basins in our house and HIGH TIDES meant a bend down and unscrew the bits over a basin. Sounds easy but first move the STUFF out of the way! I got two done and gave up. NO! There is a window of opportunity of movement while the Little Dears are in School for some proper SHOPPING.
Suddenly all the Flooring Shops are closed??? Are they not essential? Did Wickes for O rings but they did not do. B & M for some meat in £1.00 packs and an Industrial replacement of Paper Towels! The ones just used were not for recycling. Then B and Q. They did the right type of floor covering. B & M did but it was the spongy stuff. We are going to erect a bench upon and have Raglan Lathes pressing down hard. Lily chose Oak effect. I got another tin of the Black sticky stuff for the Roof.
Rounded the day on spokes.
Tuesday and it was all hands to the last two strips of Felt. Yes the difficult one just under the Cherry Tree. Brush recovers from previous encounter after 5 dips in. Lift out and twist. Oh the memories of 1960s Cooking when you took turns to dip and twist the Golden sticky stuff into a home baked cake. Then scraped the mixing bowl out with Raw Eggs and all.
It goes dark but I can just about see. I cheat on staples to hold down the edges as Lily passes up loads of bricks. The end of November and I am doing ROOF? I go and rest.
Today Lily gets to do some washing up? Yes in a Bucket with a hand brush... Our Building neighbor dropped off some brown plastic edging panels 10 inches long ages ago. Lefts and rights. We did the Right side and as the almost last one got measured for cutting. It rained. Inside for the last little bit above the door. Just one more piece in the corner. The LEFT side is all tangled in tree.
Then got out another 2 F wheel to round off the day... Sorry the spokes.
David, and Lily encountering childhood memories of shared kitchens and sinks.

I've had a nasty reaction between the lacquer we used over the decals, so my Locomotive has gone from really good paint to scruffy overnight. It's not a huge problem as I have spares, but it's rather annoying.
In the meantime I've booked a session at our club for a week or so so I've been getting her up together. My hand pump seemed a bit stiff so I stripped, inspected and reassembled. I don't know what I did but it seems fine now. Very odd. I've cleaned out and refitted my automatic drain cocks; they work brilliantly until they have a bit of funked up steam oil in them, then they can let-by a bit. It's more visually dramatic than anything else, but worth noting for the he future. The Britannia will have proper cocks, probably steam operated. Snifter has been cleaned as it had been sticking as well, buy I may yet thread it to allow me to block it with a small screw. Not the ideal solution but it behaves fine most of the time and sometimes makes my session end early by wasting a lot of steam. I'd rather have a quick way of sealing it than end my session early. My superheaters are not radiant so it shouldn't cause any issues.
I suspect there may be some mileage in opening each clack and just checking the balls are not stuck down! Otherwise though I think I'm ready for the track again, last one of the year.

Second Fix in the Extension today! NO not hitting the GRIPFILL AGAIN!!! The electrics and getting 3 double sockets organized. Plus all the little jobs I could leave for years but not this time.
Rounded off with half a wheel of spoke bashing. I have mastered the Pumps on the 2 F with another drawing. More capacity for a larger Jinty Boiler now penciled in. Joke in there somewhere.

Agreed on the sockets installed 10 doubles when building the workshop never find one vacant when I am working in that particular area!

I have 8 double sockets on a ring main in my smallish workshop. All wired up to its own consumer unit. Never have a spare one, you can never have enough sockets.

Likewise you never have enough lights in the right place at first. I put a grid of lighting plug sockets in (the sort you dont normaly see as they get fitted above suspened ceilings, still didnt have quite enough.

When I extended the workshop I fitted a grid of12v LED strip lights. Also fitted into the conservatory that I built at the same time (and used as an excuse to extend the workshop at the same time 😉). They cast a good light and use very little power.

Today I repainted the smokebox on my William (which is now referred to as Jamie, confusingly). The heatproof paint had started to take a slightly orangy tinge as it got older, so I cleaned it and then repainted it with the same material. Annoyingly this reacted with the first coats and turned into a wrinkly mess, so I removed it all and used enamel. By the looks of the photos I have of the V1/V3 locomotives they had gloss smokeboxes anyway, but I don't know how well that paint will hold up to those elevated temperatures. It's all an experiment. This locomotive has very much been my trial run for the Britannia.
My son is a bit upset that the gloss he used over the decals had a similar effect. When I first finished the paint it looked very good indeed, maybe not to Chris Vine's standards but certainly a tidy useable locomotive. Everytime I try to "Improve" it further I Improve it worse!

Lots more little bits done and a start on a clear out of everything except bench building tools. This will be done first then partially removed for the lino to go down. Oak effect. Ready for the blanket on one wall at least.
Some time this week We are going on a second circuit buying expedition for the beyond Kettle and Toaster rated one installed. This is for powering the 2 Raglans on the far wall. Much work on them beforehand though. The new armored cable comes in just above the door so is quite close. 50 meters from the house.

I now use LED bayonet bulbs in my workshop bench and machinery lamps..They're Great ( that might catch on ?? )---- cold to the touch, good, bright white light and long life...Worth the money..
