I got the second servo motor mounted up on the mill yesterday, and condemned the fuel tank on The 109.....

Well guys I met Roger today, you know Mr cComputer, and he is a really nice ordinary bloke. He even wants me to show a picture of my new main axle for my Princess of Wales (so far a secret!) so I will oblige in due course. Great day with the 3 1/2 fraternity, must get one just for fun!!
Thanks to all who came, more next year!
Cheers David

Unfortunately I didn't have time to try my hand at one of these smaller locomotives, it looks a lot more challenging than what I'm used to. It will be good to see the results of your axle efforts and hopefully you'll drop by when you're over this way. Altogether a very pleasant day.

EPK do dome head screws without slots in, so they look like rivets. I just tried to look up their web side with no joy does anyone know if they are still trading?

They're both working for me using an iPad. Having been "led to water" I couldn't resist having a drink and placed an order accordingly. Note they shut up shop soon for a short holiday soon so best get your orders in sooner rather than later.

oh, woe is me.
I got my ML7 in the early 1970's, since when I have used and abused it, including building a 4" scale traction engine. It has always done everything I wanted, without complaint, until today.
I managed to break one of the teeth off the bull wheel.
Its the 55 (I think) toothed one with the sliding sector to fit into the smaller gear adjacent to it.
I dont suppose anyone just happens to have one spare do they?

Took the 2" Fowler for a run down the Park. I forgot that there was a funday on so lots of people about. Its a different ball game to running on tracks, at best the steering was vague. Some more weight on the front axle would help. Back to the workshop for a tinker....

Took the Hunslet out to play yesterday...she's not a happy girl. Going to have to look at the slidevalves, suspect she needs new. There's something going on in there, they're not wanting to come up like they should. Vacuum brake also not working.

The original Tubal Cain was Tom Walshaw (T.D.Walshaw) who wrote many articles in earlier years for Model Engineer etc. and was English. Steve

after more months than i care to remember ive eventually cleared my bench of DIY and woodworking tools and tins of household paint, after redecorating 5 rooms and numerous other jobs on the house. of course ive now completely forgotten what stage i'd reached with construction of my 5"g terrier Stepney. i think the last thing was something to do with oil boxes on the 'Boxhill' thread. re Roger and David's exchange above about the 3.5"g rally at the Southampton track last saturday here's a youtube clip. you can see a Canterbury Lamb, a rare Rainhill, a Tich, plus Roger, and a bit more of interest... www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0wcq077psAcheers, julian

Started the day off with the news a good friend died in hospital in the early hours, not yet 60. Tack welded the pump stretcher ready for drilling the dowel holes before I silver solder it together in a way of getting on with life....had intended to drill the holes tonight but didn't in the end.

following my post on 23rd july, i made up a wooden hardwood former today to attempt a removal of the dent in the cab roof following the ''antelope attacks 5"g GWR loco'' incident... im pleased to say the repair was successful. the following pic is self explanatory and shows the cramp under pressure over tightening the dented area to reform it back into shape. a bit of tweaking here and there and job done. a bit of paint to touch up on the cab roof but that's an easy job. a big thank you to forum member Jim Scott who advised me by email the correct shape of the former to remove the dent. cheers, julian

That's great news Julian and with a detailed photo of the method used to restore the roof along with the superb backhead included in the shot what more could one ask for?
Jim.

Hi Julian
Very pleased to hear that you managed to reform the roof without removing the cab. Its not often that 'Plan A' works so well, normally there would be a few very cross words during the progression to Plan B, C, D, etc. Cheers
