Hi I am just about to start making the turret to go on my 3 1/2 William. The part that screws into the top boiler bush will be Gun metal or SAE 660. But I would like to make the horizontal part of the turret out of brass and this would then be silver soldered to the other part. I was wondering if it's ok to use brass for this as it's not the part that screws into the boiler. Any ideas please. Thanks Garry In Sunny Jersey Ha Ha

The biggest problem with using brass is the areas where it's in contact with water when de-zincification occurs. In a manifold exposed purely to steam one would hope this is never the case. Personally, I would never use brass for any of the components fitted to the boiler, only the threaded fittings on the pipework leading to said boiler mounted components.
