Hi all
Can anyone tell me how to reduce the picture size when downloading. I use Photo-bucket to upload the pics to this forum from and end up with rather large pics that take up the whole page.

Ace,
You can open the picture in Microsoft Paint (part of Windows), then select 'image' and then 'stretch/skew', then type a percentage into the horizontal and vertical stretch boxes, eg 50 to reduce to half size, then save the image as a jpg.
Regards,
John

There are two issues here - reducing the physical size of pictures AND/OR reducing the file size to facilitate quicker transporting. Photoshop Elements will do both of these for you and lots, lots more! I have not seen it free anywhere, but I got my one free with a camera.

Try Irfanview.
A simple basic picture resizer and modifier, and, IT IS FREE!

Another vote for Irfanview. Also usable for this with a bit more possibilities: The Gimp; Also free and exsists for M$, linux and OSx
What you need to do is first crop your pic to cut away all that doesn't matter. Then resize/scale to about 640 pixels for the largest edge. This will give pics that fill the space a post of the forum when viewed in the most common screen sizes.

I have been using Irfanview for years and believe me its one of the best around - even better for being free - but a tip, once you have resized etc save the image with a new file name, that way you can always get back to the original. Another advantage / facility which I use all the time is to be able to title all the images onto the actual photo, I know that other camera tools will do this but Irfanview is so simple to use compared with something like Photoshop for which you need a degree in digital acrobatics to use effectively .
