Here are photos of a Steam Event hosted by the Ashburton And District Model Engineers at the Tinwald Domain home track on Saturday 1st August. It was the first major event recorded since 1994 and was hosted for locomotive owners of 5" and 3.5" engines. The day was for the enthusiasts to run engines without the need to haul passengers and many just pulled driver trollies only and were free to steam as they wished. An informal cook up was had at lunch. The day was cool but this made for a very picturesque atmosphere. The engines running were, 5" Springbok, Railmotor, Bjax,Hunslet,,NZR F Class, Royal Scot and a 3.5" freelance Juliet. All engine steamed on Welsh Anthracite which was supplied. We hope to repeat this day at various venues as it was a great event to bring out smaller engines that seldom run these days and remain under the bench. We hope to get them on the track where they belong. The format was similar to the Hunslet Birthday we held two weeks prior and the exclusion of public made for a much more enjoyable venue. www.facebook.com/pages/Ashburton-and-District-Model-Engineers/583495055126351

That looks like a fun event, and with some nice models.

Alan,
Yes it was nice to have seven steamers on the back straight.
It was remarked that it was like the old days. Even though the event was on a Saturday it allowed members to also run the next day at their home track. If those that attend are dedicated they will come, bacon buttes or not!
We will run here if any Lions Rugby fans come down for the rugby next year. Oh and there is a fully steaming Rogers K88 Loco right next door at the Plains Museum that you can ride on as well.
