I wouldnt touch it with a barge-pole.
I wonder if Ebay realise that there are rules that cover these items? The sellers obviously dont.

eBay is an auction that sales anything , the seller is responsible for his items and the buyer must also accept his responsibility to ensure what he is buying , buyers be aware . The seller has mentioned that the boiler has no paper work , has not been checked during building but it is good and no return is accepted,he has put his cards on the table . well to me it is good for an anchor if I had a boat . I bet someone will buy it and then try to get it certified .

I suspect he built it from drawings that were meant for copper, and did not make the required size adjustments for steel.

It is only a matter of time until some one ends up blowing them self's up, then with tightening up of the rules and regs all of us will get clobbered. Even phasing out of home builds.
There is a massive grey area with boilers and locos with boilers on ebay. Quotes such as "looks well made should be able to get a certificate on it"
It's black and white.
The boiler has a current certification or its out of certification.
There is a listing for a complete loco with a statement that it's been tested to XXX PSI, but no test certificates supplied......
It's all very scary.

Its crazy to buy a boiler or a loco without a boiler certificate , the only exception in my book is a known loco with expired certificate and known history in which case the boiler past can be traced and retested and re certified or an uncompleted boiler to be inspected , completed , tested and certified .

Sorry folks, I fail to see why this is any of your business what someone sells and who buys it unless you are bidding.

It may not be any of our business at this stage of the game - but sure as hell we will ALL be affected if there is a mishap when it is under steam. The insurance conditions will get tightened considerably - and we will ALL suffer the consequences of ONE idiot's actions!
Eddie.

If what you say is correct, it will not be certified and therefore not insured. I cannot see how it will affect our insurance at all.
