Help please, I tried to do a hydraulic test on the boiler but there is a hole about 3-4mm where the dome bush is fitted into the boiler barrell any suggestions please as how I can plug this hole, it appears to be in the soldering or brazing. Also any help on how the regulator assembly is removed from the boiler barrell is it screwed in from the smoke box end. I have had the regulator rod out of the Backhead Thankyou.

Hi John,
Sorry, but I can't really help or advise on the hole in the boiler, other than to ask wheter or not you think the hole was there for some practical purpose? Seems a very large hole to be there for no good reason. However...
The Regulator. Having just located LBSC's 'Words and Music' (ME Vol 100, issue 2486, Jan 13, 1949, pp 46. The regulator is situated inside (or beneath) the dome itself. You have removed the regulator rod, but you will have to remove the superheaters and headers from the smokebox, and then undo and withdraw the steam pipe, which connects to the regulator itself, inside the boiler. Once that lot is off, you should be able to unscrew the regulator unit from the dome opening, and withdraw it through said opening. It's all a little complicate to explain here, but I can try and copy the whole article, and email it to you as attachments. You will probably need it for the re-assembly anyway. Let me know here if you'd like the copy.

Hi John,
If I were in your position, I would take the boiler to my local Model Engineering Club, and get the advice of the other members. Usually the dome bush is a seamless casting. I wonder if this was a home-made bush, with a soldered seam? Or do you mean between the boiler barrel and the actual bush? If so, you should be able to resolder that, but as I said, take advice from your club boiler inspector.
I have started copying the pages, and will email them in the next couple of days. I'll try one, the assembly drawing now, and see how it goes.
Regards
Geoff
