I am a fan of John Baguley's site, and am impressed by his work on the Long Simplex (which I understand is an improvement of the ME Alice loco). Has anyone gone down the 0-6-2 path, and if yes, and there are hints and tips?
Also, does anyone have a drawing of the extended frames for the 0-6-2T version? I have a DXF of the super simplex frames I'd be happy to trade (sent to me by Robin Smith RIP, and expat who lived in Canada).
Thanks! Tony

Hi Tony,
I have used Baguley's web site also. I used one of his boiler calculators to help comfirm, (along with others), that my Super Simplex should have slightly smaller cylinder bores.
Did you ever get information or drawings for the extended frames?
Did you get your Simplex finished? What is the status of your Simplex?
David

Hi delaplume,
Yes, I know Tony's post was some time back, but, I am always interested in folks building a Simplex or Super Simplex. My Super Simplex is pretty much finished and I am quite satisfied with it. I am just interested in what others are doing. Seems as if our friend Tony has disappeared. I would have liked to have seen his progress.

Hello everyone----------Sorry David for the "Slight delay" in replying to you............I too have a "thing" for dear old Simplex ( I currently have 4 Mk1 and 1 Mk.2 ) in various stages of repair...........3 have been bought as non-runners with the express intent of a slight renovation back into running condition then selling in order to provide the main capital for my Funeral Fund !!..........OK, a bit morbid some might say but it has to be faced eventually and in the meantime I get to enjoy doing the 5" gauge version of what we were up to at Bridgnorth SVR....ie}-- restoration of a Dead loco........This is my own one during it's change to London Transport livery...The ghosting has since been removed......( Hooray-- got a photo loaded !!)..

David Sorry for the long delay in replying ... didn't see this question until recently, although I have been on the MECH site on and off over the last few months! Yes, I did get drawings from John B and I'm sure he wouldn't mind me sharing them with you (they are DXFs). Please PM me your email address and I'll get them off to you. Regarding my simplex, it is stalled behind a number of other projects at the moment ... maybe next year! Regards. Tony

Hi Tony,
Glad to see you are still around. Since you are in the U.S., are you planning to gauge your Simplex for 4-3/4" track? That is what I did when I built mine. I have even had the opportunity to take it to the St. Croix track in WI. I will send you a PM with my email address, and thank you so much for the offer! You will have to post a few photos when progress is made.

One of the many reasons I chose to build a Super Simplex was because it would be easy to re-gauge for the 1" scale track in the U.S. (4-3/4" gauge). Outside cylinders and valve gear was a requirement! It has worked out quite well even with the slightly narrower grate.

And with your info and encouragement, I do plan to change to 4 3/4"gauge. Tony

Hello everyone--------- whilst I'm on a roll with photos here is the Super Simplex rolling chassis I recently inherited.........As you can see it's done as an 0-6-2...........I also have a boiler that's finished bar two bottom legs of the foundation ring.......... I'll be offering it on E-Bay in the New Year but if any of you are interested then please PM me for a chat--OK The trailing wheel arrangement is very different to that being suggested by John Baguley (who has designed a novel radial axle system). The system on your model looks more like a pony truck ... Do you have any photos of the arrangement from above that show the attachment and the suspension/bearing systems? Thanks

Hello everyone---- Hi atgordon........The GWR large Prairies, the 56xx, and indeed my Great Bear all had a radial axlebox at the rear.. The LNER A3, A4 etc had that cartazzi (?) truck which is a form of radial axlebox as well.. Trevor Shortland's 5" gauge large Prairie has a good example of the radial box as well........I must get round to visiting Baggo's site and have a look...... Here are those photos you asked for}-------- acura 0 60 times
