Having been trying to source a supply of small steel channels for a few of my own models I have found this material to be unobtainable in the UK.
Having managed to finally source a supply of material I have decided to offer it to others. This is proper hot rolled steel channel, with a radiused inside corner and a square outside corner, it is not folded from sheet. Current material sizes available are as follows (all imperial) Available in any length up to 8ft
3/4 x 3/8 x 1/8
1 x 1/2 x 1/8
1-1/2 x 1/2 x 1/8
1-1/2 x 3/4 x 1/8
2 x 1/2 x 1/8
2 x 1 x 1/8
2 x 1 x 3/16
Prices unfortunately are not cheap due to having to import material, but based on how much interest there is in people wanting some, I can keep the price as low as possible. I paid around £40 per metre for the 1 x 1/2 x 1/8, but that was for a very small quantity.
I'm looking at obtaining some in between sizes as well.
I can also offer a laser cutting and water jet cutting service. Prices for laser cutting are usually much cheaper than buying just the raw material yourself, which you would then have to profile yourself. Water jet cutting being more precise, but also a bit more expensive.
Laser cutting capacity is 25mm in Steel, stainless and aluminium. Copper and brass also available
Water jet cutting thickness is pretty much anything, 200mm not being uncommon. No heat affected zone so any material can be cut such as HSS or pre-heat treated material. Tolerance is generally +/- 0.1mm on profiles and +/- 0.01 on features, with a square cut edge, which means further machining is generally unnecessary, or an angle of 9 deg from the vertical is achievable. Ideal for cutting stainless bar or rosebud grates.
All that is required is a dimensioned drawing in any format, either on paper or electronic. All items will be sent by Royal Mail or parcel courier
