I'm probably going to go on Friday 16th if anyone wants to meet up and say hi. I have no idea what the layout is, so I can't suggest a time and place. By all means pm me if you want to get in touch on the day by text, it would be good to meet more of our members and catch up with those I already know.

Just returned from a very pleasant visit here. Personally, I like the venue, there's a lot more to see than just Model Engineering. There's plenty of off-site parking with a charming old double decker Bus for the Park & Ride. There's nowhere to shelter if it's raining though, so you might want to take an umbrella if it's raining.
I suppose there were about the same number of trade stands and exhibitors as at Sandown or Ascot, the previous venues, but the displays are fragmented into different buildings, so it's hard to compare them like for like. Anyway, it's a pleasant enough day out, the entrance fee covers everything and the food is tolerably good.
It was great to catch up with several of our members here and swap a few stories.

First time I've stayed at a museum right up to closing time - so much to see there. A return visit needed I think once the hangar redevelopments are completed.
Some very impressive locomotives on display - ones that stood out for me being 5" LBSCR 'Bessborough', 5" C Class No. 255, 5" P1 No. 2393, 5" Terrier 'Bramley' (Guildford MES), 5" 2-4-0 'Europa' (Beech Hurst), 3.5" 'Jenny Lind' and 5" Washington. Not just the locomotives, but also traction engines, IC engines and boats (HMS Warspite stood out in the Vickers Room).
Had a nice chat with Peter Shaw on the National 2 1/2" Gauge Association stand - his Adams O2 tank is fitted with a Chapelon exhaust. Also a gentleman on the Gas Turbine Association stand who is experimenting with 3D printed nylon for part of his latest turbine model.
The Brooklands volunteers added to the atmosphere, being very friendly and informative. The Vickers Varsity is worth a look because of all the equipment in it as a training aircraft.
Could have done with more undercover areas to have lunch given the weather today.
Regards,
Dan

So where are the pictures (for those who are too far to attend)? Good point Joan, I only took two of the STEPNEY (oops BRAMLEY) that was exhibited because I thought they might be of interest to Julian. 20160916_125148 by Roger Froud, on Flickr 20160916_125156 by Roger Froud, on Flickr

My pics in this slideshow or direct in the photobucket album Only a few locos as they are not really my thing. Liting was not ideal for photos either. J

Went yesterday with my MES. Unfortunately, we had a trip there about 4 years ago at one of the "1940s days", so most of us had already seen the majority of the Brooklands Museum artefacts. Even so, there were a few new ones that were found and a few old ones bearing a second visit.
The models, loan and competition, were superb and, as usual, had a few chats with fellow MEs. Not impressed with the few trade stands in the tent. Certainly a lot less than at London, Midlands, "Harrowgate" or Bristol.
The members of my MES stopped going to the Model Engineer sponsored show at Sandown because of the lack of traders, but IIRC the last time I visited Sandown, there were a few more than at this venue.
One criticism. With the models spread all over the place, it wasn't easy to find them and some of my colleagues needed better signage and a bit of guidance to find them at all.
I agree with the comment about rain. Luckily, it was dry yesterday.
We tried the show again instead of our usual coach trip to the Midlands - but I don't think we'll do so again.

Belatedly thank you Roger for those pics of the wonderful 5" Terrier Bramley by Roger Curtis.
Roger met Cherry Hill Hinds at Brooklands which was to my mind was worth the exhibition journey plus lots more! Now there's a thing or two... Roger showing his GWR scale boiler fittings to Cherry! That meeting spans 50 years of the very best of model engineering. Just a shame Cherry hasnt built a 5"g GWR loco!
Cheers, Julian

Chris Vine kindly sought her out to introduce me, and show her my box of bits. She was curious to know how some of the curved surfaces were machined, and it's difficult to explain that in a meaningful way in just a sentence or two. She's well aware of the rise of these tools though, and was sure that we would be seeing a lot more of it. Hopefully she didn't think it was rubbish, she'd be far too polite to say anyway.

Well, now that is a special moment for Rodger. A very special moment. Bravo to Mr Vine. One day I hope to make the pilgrimage to see and meet the ME greats, but if I get to the UK next year it will be in April, for the Bristol Bespoke Show. (Hand made bicycle show) Cheers

I am also going to take part in the trade exhibit. Since it is my first time I would like to get suggestions for most appropriate trade show displays for the booth. Also suggest what kind of lighting is perfect for showing goods without any issues. It will be helpful if anyone can answer.

How long before it disappears for ever ? It's been going downhill since I took my children to Wembley in the 1980s. Final move to Brroklands last year with bad signposting, few trade stalls and a high entrance fee showed it was near dead.

I think Mattei's biggest problem will be stopping the light reflecting of the tops of his tins of spam.
Alternate years as Jo says. Does mean you may get to see some new models not the same old ones that are trundled out year on year at other shows.
Back in the day when it was at Wembly there were basically no other model shows so it was the one show a year that a dealer could afford to attend. We now have several ME shows per year not to mention the other shows for the various modeling subjects the old MAP group used to cover. Just add up all the boat, RC, Plastic, etc shows now and you can see why it is not as big now.

It will be interesting to see what happens at the forthcoming Midlands Exhibition in October following Mr Deith's decision to reduce the number of exhibitor and steward passes allowed to the clubs. My own club, NWLSME, has decided that they will not be attending because of this, although they have attended every one since the beginning, and I believe other clubs may be following suit.
Without the clubs and their exhibits, there will not be much of an exhibition.

John that's not good news John, the Midlands show is the one that I try hard to attend, not the closest by far but a good event with ample/safe parking(important to me)... I was looking forward to going again this year... may not do so now... Pete
