Hi guys, my name is Nigel Woolley (NP Woolley) from Australia. I've just signed up on the forum, and I'm in the throes of finishing off a Winson Britannia for a fellow model engineer. It's been fun reworking all the things, I don't know if we're out of the woods yet, but have been sorting out the smokebox and blasting arrangement recently. I have lowered the blast cap to the floor of the smokebox as the rule of thumb 1 in 3, 1 in 6 tapers met halfway up the petticoat. Before I got it, there was much work done to the chassis. We've had the cylinders to bits opening out the 3/16" steam passages on the mill and with the die grinder, making new liners etc as the old ones were not right. The outer profile of the cylinders was horribly ground and we did some more horrible grinding to get the cladding to fit. Have also made a new ashpan and grate system as I didn't like the Winson one not being removable. The new grates are completely removable from the boiler, being able to be dropped out of the centre hopper and out through the trailing truck frame. Also this mod gives us great access to the fusible. The boiler was made in Western Australia to Doug Hewson's design and is equipped with a combustion chamber. I hope it goes OK!
