Why is so little posted on forums about Galetea. Were many sold. were many completed. I can only find reference to one being completed and fixed and run and then sold and run. other than that , nothing. Does look interesting

I have one of these beasts, numbered as 45595 Southern Rhodesia.
presently doing quite a lot of work on it to get it running better.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. Is it just the valve gear thats dodgy or is other areas that are a bit suspect?

One of the main drivers was loose on the axle with a worn keyway and i understand that the original main steam pipe was a bit small to supply 3 x 1.5" cylinders.
Works quite well now following a chassis up rebuild including new main frames.

I volunteer with Martyn Ashworth (ex-Winson project engineer) and he tells me the Galetea was probably the worst loco they produced, partly due to a rushed introduction and also due to issues with the middle cylinder. I've never seen one finished although a friend of mine has the bare bones of one - David I may ask for build info if he still needs it. Ian
