Pete thank you soooooo much for your help in this. I am going to go in the new year and see the boiler if it Measures out ok I will be a proud owner of a boiler and all the castings for a 7 1/4 p2. which may be the answer to my next build but would also like a class 4 first 🤔 at the age of 35 I hope to say I can get them both done but let’s see 😃 main priority is the flying Scotsman
All the best Tom

Hi Tom, Love your lanterns! Any chance that you can share photos & or drawings of the build? The plates look fantastic ! The thistles really add a nice touch, building bigger allows for the smaller details like that to show up.
The lubricator photos.....oh YUM! All credit to Adam & Mike
Cheers Kerrin

I created the design on CAD about 2 years ago ready for use on my 7 1/4 inch LNER N2. Adam Cro of Cro fittings very kindly added the necessary sprues for casting and got the box, lid, ratchet and wheel cast. I have so far machined up one box and again designed a pump mechanism which includes, pump ratchet wheel (using a spindle not clutch and o-ring to stop the oil coming back up) on the inside and check valve at the bottom. Its all very compacted but so far its going okay. If you want to see latest photos of my lubricator see my facebook page. I would attach a photo of the 3D model and real life thing but never added a photo on here before and I dare say it would go wrong! If you would like anymore info, give me a shout. More than happy to help out and carry on building! Cheer Bruce H

Yes, 0.28mm in 5inch gauge, quite achievable with a bow pen or tubular pen but would, I feel , not look quite right being a bit too fine on the model. I was thinking of eventually lining mine at about 0.5mm but would do a test first. Also look how the green makes the orange lines almost appear brown. I know some professional painters in the smaller scales use humbrol tan colour because it looks right.

Hi all. As some of you many no I have got the Wakefield number 7 cylinder lubricators from Adam cro. To day I have start to build these up. Sick of drilling at 12ba now which this may be big to some of you but to me they are small and 12ba and my fingers don’t mix (there is more on the floor🙁). I am in need of a picture of the top of the Lubricator if anybody can help out.
I have Decided to have these as dummy’s . As I am going to have a bigger tank in the front under the running boards plus each cylinder will have its own pump that way to. All been well I can pick the drive up of the 2 to 1 Lever.
I will post photos once they are done they are looking great.

Hi Tom It's a bit of a nightmare when looking at lubricators, you'd think to know the model number, IE No.7 would be all you need, but there seem to be variations and I wonder if some may have been built to licence? When talking 4472, there's also the fact of what's changed during her career, as Adam pointed out to me recently, today she has one Wakefield with the other being a Davies Metcalfe, all very confusing. From what I have read the same type is used for both cylinder and axle feed but with one having an anti-carboniser unit fitted for the cylinders. There is also the No.7Z but I don't think we need to worry about this for 4472. Here's a picture showing the top of a No.7 but from a smaller loco so may be different, it's certainly set up differently for driving the ram. Here's a Wakefield advert including the anti-carboniser for the cylinder lubricator This advert shows a top filler plug, I'm not sure about this, I haven't seen it in any photo's of 4472 from any era so again probably not relevant to our loco. There are a number of good articles on the web giving drawings for the Wakefield No.7 which you may find of interest, alas I can't seem to copy a link? Pete

Hi Pete I would not no what I would do with out you. The information you have on fs is Fantastic. It’s great and much Appreciated. This is the bit I have got Confused with that when you think you have the model number ie number 7 there is different ones keep coming up. But all sorted now thank you to you.
Am going to be honest to you all on here. I am not the Brightest when it comes to the paper side Like reading and writing looking up information. My mind gets confused with it all. I am Dyslexic. I struggled Through school and my apprenticeship but you can achieve anything when you put your mind to it. At school I was told by a teacher I would be a nobody. I am now a Qualified Multiskilled engineer (Electrically biased) working in the food industry running my own Business and doing very well. Thanks to the wife doing the paper side 😃 Who also hates it when I am saying how do you spell this how do you spell that. And when your seven-year-old son says you spell it like this that’s when I realise I am not very good. i can read electrical drawings and mechanical drawings better than I can read a book. So if you ever think my English is crap you know why. And thank God to the spellchecker on iPhones they are fantastic Lol😃.
