Hi Dennis. So what happened with the A.A.L.S. award that was given to the winner with much acclaim and then taken back a couple of days later, with the comment the model was not allowed to receive it due to the owner being a member of the Northern Association. The owner had previously telephoned asking if, due to his affiliation not being with the S.Fed, he could take part with running his locomotive.Seems the organising team from the S,Fed made one huge co***p despite being warned of the circumstances. Then of course we hear when presented to the second choice he declined it with it then going to the third choice. Sad when you think of the times years ago when everything was run by model engineers and not glory hunters!!!

Heronsgate,
Sorry I know nothing about what you say above, try the Southern Fed website or ask David, Midland, above. We were just visitors having a good day.

Personally, the whole idea of awards at these rallies puts me off taking a locomotive to one. I really don't see the point, just enjoy a day out and forget all this elitism nonsense.

Anyone one can come to and run a loco at a SF Rally. Yes, mistake in awarding to the Staines member. He acted with good grace once the error was realized and has actually received a SD descretional award. There were two winners really, impossible to make the right decision and the award has gone to the Maidstone pacific. Suggest you try not make an unfortunate mistake worse by going on about it!! D

In reply to previous comments, I was the winner of the trophy at Fareham and generally the comments are correct. I am a member of the Northern Association, I did phone about attending and had a very good day out. What I did not do was go because there was a competition, I did not know that there was one until the presentation, and I am not a trophy hunter. My main reason for going was that I had been to two of Farehams electric days as an observer and wanted to try the track with steam. I found the track excellent and had a very good day.
