It appears from something in EIM that we are about to have new boiler test codes. Does anyone know when these might appear and what the implementation date is.

No sorry stopped taking EIM a year after I stopped subscribing to ME. The Boilers I build before that seem to still be safe and keep on passing their safety tests some more than 30 years since I built the first of them.
If the safety regulations for boilers get any worse post Brexit it will finally kill our hobby.

Hello all
I asked the question a couple of months ago, I believe the update is due around Easter this year.

Jo Hi Jo, I don't think that any changes to the boiler test codes will be anything to be concerned with. I am sure the legacy issue will allow boilers constructed before the implementation date of the changes, will continue to be OK for use. I am sure that the committee responsible for the changes is formed by people experienced in making model steam locomotives and not some OH and S bureaucrats intent on over regulation. The Australian code AMBSC Code Part 1 and 2 are prescriptive in what is required but non-the-less all requirements have been tested and considered necessary and are no more difficult to implement than a boiler constructed 30 years ago. May 2018 is the proposed implementation. No substantive changes to test pressure, procedures or certification. New code will be 3 volumes, large boilers, small boilers (< 3 bar litres) and refillable gas tanks (< 250ml)
