This weekend 7th 8th April we have the Spring Edition of the Hobby Model Expo at Novegro. Milan. The live steam group will be active and we should see a good turn out of locos for the weekend. I will be there on Saturday.

Are there many (any?) suppliers of 'model-engineer scales/gauges' drawings and/or castings of Italian steam prototypes? Or are Italian 'model engineer live steam scales' enthusiasts adapting existing designs from other countries or creating their own from available resources. I have seen a number of youtube videos showing 5 & 7 1/4 inch gauge gatherings at both Novegro and Casarile so I see that there is quite a bit of activity. A google search has failed to find any suppliers of Italian prototypes, but that may reflect my competencies!
Regards, Phil

Hi Phil, So sorry for coming back so late, outside events have overtaken me leaving no time for anything else. Most builders of the Italian designs work from the works drawings available from Ferrovia dello Stato (FS) There are no off the shelf designs for specific FS locos although the T3 is available from various sources and these were used in Italy. The other extreme, as has been done....! is to buy the full sized loco from FS and then dismantle it measuring up every part and making two superb examples in 7 1/4". Somethings are starting to move now and basic parts are becoming available but the market in Italy is tiny, we are probably no more than 30 people that actually build locos.
