I acquired these last week. Anyone know what they are? They are only about 20mm long, and the long face is precision ground. Could they be edge stops when working with sheet metal? Frankly, I haven't a clue! John WP_20180701_16_35_02_Pro[1] by inkaboat, on Flickr

Miscellaneous Acquisition Disability. I've got the same problem. I suspect we're in good company on this forum.

Look up M & W "Key Seat Clamps" Thanks for that Jason. £32.00 a pop just to turn your ruler into a marking out gauge! Amazing that people will pay that much for something that could be milled out in a few minutes. John

Back in the day they probably did not have a mill to make a pair and after marking out their keyway would have cut it with a chisel

Back in the day they probably did not have a mill to make a pair and after marking out their keyway would have cut it with a chisel Stop me if I've told this story before I'm not being clever, we were were all expected to do this sort of repair!Funnily enough, I didn't have a mill or seat clamps on exercises in Germany in my 10 ton machinery lorry at 2.00 am, when I used a small chisel to cut out the woodruff key from the crankshaft timing gear keyway of a Bedford three tonner which the errant RCT driver had mashed up by selecting first gear at 40 mph! i remade the keyway with the chisel and swiss files, made a new woodruff key, filed out the bit of keyway that was now welded into the timing gear, and we put it back together. Much to my surprise, it ran OK. The Americans would have just called up a new truck... John

So how are "Key Seat Clamps" actually used. Yes, it'll be obvious once explained - but at the moment ........

You put them on a ruler, then it will lie along a bar. You can scribe the bar, perhaps to mark the position of a keyway. KeySeatClamp by Wilf, on Flickr Wilf
