I need 3/16 dia phosphor bronze for longitudinal stays in my boiler, and 5/8" dia for bushes. I'm faced with a choice of PB102, PB1 or SAE 660. Which is best for boiler work? All will be silver soldered so presumably no lead content.

For the rods you can use copper, all bushes should be PB and the larger ones can be SAE660 gunmetal so the easy answer make bushes phosphor bronze if you can’t then SAE660 is your best next choice

Don't forget when you buy phos bronze, buy drawn rod not cast bar.
Bob.
Edit: If you want the PB for stays to go the full length of the boiler, you could also use drawn Monel Metal rods.

The drawing specifies PB, so I don't want to deviate from the published design. From what I've seen on line, both PB1 and SAE660 seem to be lead bearing, which leads me to conclude that it will have to be PB102, unless anyone knows differently.

Go for PB102. Anything containing lead will be a pig to silver solder in the boiler.

Thats my thoughts as well, so I have bought PB102. Just as an aside, having priced the copper for the boiler, I went to John Keatly Metals in Shadwell Street, behind St Chads RC cathedral in Birmingham. An old established company supplying just about everything you can think of in non ferrous metal, I first went there in about 1965 with my father when he was building Speedy and I was building Juliet. Staffed by very helpful knowledgeable people, I got my materials for the boiler for less than a third of what the 'model trade' wanted. Phone 0121 2364300 and ask for Lynley.
