Hello all, I am a new member interested in live steam and General home machining projects. I have been involved in model engineering for 50 years and have built a 5 inch gauge Simplex locomotive and currently building a 3.5 inch Marquess as described by Martin Evans in the ME around 1993. This loco is a K1 as designed by Arthur Peppercorn for the LNER. The next person I know to be building this Loco will be the first so I hope there is someone out there to bounce some of my questions off. Looking forward to being involved in the forum especially in 3.5 inch live steam. Sam

Hi Sam;
I did keep the Marquess articles around for a bit, but they might be hard to find.
However, I'm building the "Ivatt" by Martin Evans, which is now progressing well. I did finish a Kozo "Shay" locomotive, so time to focus on the Ivatt.
3-1/2" gauge is great, as parts are easy to lift, as are the completed locomotives (usually!) Great for those of us who realize that we must expect to age as we get older.
John.

Next week I am going to Scotland and I am booked to ride ‘The Jacobite’ which should be hauled by the K1 which is the Marquesss that I am building. I hope to get lots of close up photos. I will be very disappointed if they substitute a different steam loco and devastated if it’s a diesel.
