Years ago Don redesigned the valve gear for simplex with only 1 mod to the frames and new dimensions for the valve gear, did he share this with anyone other than myself, as I've modified the frame and lost the valve gear dimensions.
Hope someone can help

Hi John,
Only just seen your post, hence the late reply.
I looked at the Simplex valve gear in detail some time ago when I was designing my 0-6-2 version and put the dimensions in the Wallace valve gear simulator. The original Martin Evans design actually gives very good valve events in forward gear as it stands and reverse gear is not bad either. I doubt if you would really notice any improvements that could be made.
I did tweek the valve gear for my own version and that gives almost perfect events in forward and reverse throughout the whole range of cut offs but I would have to check back to see what I altered (it was a long time ago!)

The valve gear for the Super Simplex seems to work well also. I built mine exactly as drawn and it works well forward and reverse.

It is not the valve gear that is the problem! The boiler is the same size as the Jinty... Yes I have both stood side by side in the workshop. The problem is the ashpan covering almost half the fire and the boiler trying to supply cylinders of 1 1/2 inches 1 3/8" as per Jinty is far better. I was working on my new ones Friday. Also better drawings and better steam passages! The cylinders are angled on mine now and look far better. Also longer rear wheelbase. And somewhere for the crew to stand when cleaning the smokebox out!!! David.

I have built my Super Simplex with 1-3/8" cylinders. It runs great and has plenty of power. The valve gear is built exactly as drawn. It works quite well forward and reverse.
The ash pan does not cover any of the fire, it is in fact below the fire.

By cover I mean Restrict it hence cover from below! Good one.
Put back in a B1 Grate yesterday for a friend... Tricky beast it's all about angles! His firebars were too close together for our current coal! We all need several grates to choose from having identified the local coal!
Another super Public running... Must do something non Railway next week! David and Lily.

A friend had a copy, thanks Paul, will aim to get them drawn up properly in the near future and a big thanks to the late Don Ashton for doing this.
