Some great photos there Steve. We had a spin around the track behind Dave with his Singapore and some fantastic chocolate cake from the ladies in the club house. Had to shoot off fairly quickly as we were going somewhere else for the afternoon but really enjoyed our short visit.

Glad you enjoyed it! You were 'lucky' to catch Dave on a passenger run, he didn't manage many during the weekend! See you again sometime!?? Steve

Just a quick update on our society, we have like so many other clubs, societies cancelled meetings and public running until further notice due to the present Virus problems. Boiler testing this Saturday will still be carried out and work on the track extension will be down to each individuals choice. The extension to the ground level track is coming along a lot faster than we all envisaged even with the terrible weather that we have had. We always need more willing volunteers with strong backs and lots of energy??? Stay Safe. John

We have started back with small work parties getting on with the track extension. Just a small group and sticking to social distancing rulings. Luckily the weather has been OK for tea breaks outside with chair/bench spacing. Main land drain now installed and old bridge removed. Nice to get out of the house and have a natter whilst working. Stay safe all John

The new track extension is really coming along well. Most of the heavy digging is done (the mini digger has earned its keep), bridge removed, a land drain fitted to top of track that was prone to flooding. A large part of the track has now had limestone hardcore rammed down ready for ballast. Today we started rebuilding the bridge main retaining wall. Laid out some preformed lengths of track to get a better idea of track line. Still had time for two teabreaks and a good natter and banter session.

The track extension is really coming along. Widened and raised bridge is in place with access slope from one side finished. Track widening and edging about finished. Over half of the new rails are made and roughly in place. 2 or 3 weeks ago Rosie got to drive her Royal Scot very slowly on the new track and then reverse back. Film of this are on the MM&DME society Facebook page. Work at the track is on hold due to the Covid lockdown again but track section, signals etc are still being produced in members own workshops. The 8 or 9 regular workers have really worked miracles to get as far as we have. Here's hoping for an end to the restrictions so that the track can be finished and some sort of normality returned. Stay Safe and Keep making Swarf. JC (teaboy)

Just a quick update, Work largely on hold until relaxation of the present lock-down rules. The club secretary/treasurer informed me that the majority of last years members have renewed their memberships this year. This is very pleasing even though we do not know when we can resume public running, boiler tests, and hopefully a Gala. If members do not renew their subscriptions do they expect a club still to be there when restrictions are lifted? We still have to pay insurance, rent etc. Please support your local clubs.... Stay safe all keep making swarf and hopefully the end is in sight. JC (teaboy)

JC (teaboy) Itching to get back there John but I hear it's VERY wet at the moment so probably best that we don't go trudging through the mud. At least the Baldwin is coming together more quickly than it ever has thanks to having to stay at home. Ian

Your correct apparently we might be better with hovercraft than locos. I cannot wait to get back either, I am having to eat all the Jaffa Cakes and brink all the cups of tea myself. I have been a bit slack in the workshop due to other commitments, but hoping to remedy that this week. Keep up the running mate hopefully see you soon. John

With the latest roadmap from the government it looks as if we will soon be able to get working on the new track again. I have been up to the track a couple of times on my own and doing a bit of hedge tidying and clearing up. A couple of other local members have also nipped in and done odd jobs as well. Mostly clearing up and security work. There is already talk of a possible gala day in August!!! A quick note for some of our "gardeners" the bulbs are all coming up and the new grass is growing well even under the trees. Keep making swarf and stay safe, John

Nipped to the track on Friday. Those pesky rabbits have demolished a lot of the newly emerging plants. It looks like the new security fencing is keeping the dog walkers out who cannot be bothered to clear up their mess. Also a great reduction in vandalism after cctv footage was taken to the Police. The track gang have been really busy and got lots of track sections made at home for the track extension over the lockdown and must be about two thirds of the way around. This extension will double the length of the ground level (5 and 7.25inch) track. Still a lot of groundwork to be done by the Friday gang. Hopefully we will have a small weekend gala in early August. An excuse to get out for the weekend "run what you brung" and sit and catch up with the gossip. I will add details when/if it is definite. Keep making swarf, John

HOORAY,,,, we are holding a Steam Weekend (Gala) 7th and 8th August. We hope to include, Traction Engines, Wagons and Locos all running over the weekend. We will also welcome Model Engines and other models. Sadly it does not look as if we will have the track extension ready but the "Friday" gang will be doing their best. Watch this space. More details will be available over the next couple of weeks when we get things more sorted and organised. This weekend will be open to non Melton Mowbray and District MES members by application once we know how many club members wish to come. The boiler inspectors are organising some boiler test dates and again I will put them up here or contact club secretary. All arrangements are subject to any Covid restrictions. Hopefully by the end of June we should be a lot better off than over the present lockdown etc. John
