I have just took delivery of the above and would like to ask some advice on what is the best stuff to use to clean all the protective coating off the slides and table and also what oil is best for wiping the table down after use to keep it protected from corrosion.
Thanks in advance

Try any convenient solvent to see if it works, but probably white spirit. To wipe the table down? Whatever you use to lubricate the machine, or ordinary engine oil. It isn't critical, far to much fuss is made about grades of oil, IMHO, for home workshop use.

Petrol is the cheapest and best solvent for the job

Possibly, but a bit hazardous in an enclosed space.

never had a problem and the same applies to any solvent.

With respect, avoid paraffin unless you are going to cover all surfaces with oil afterwards. In my experience it's second in the queue after a certain WD** product for causing subsequent rusting unless followed by lashings of oil. I suppose any solvent will strip away the anti-oxidising protective layer so requires immediate recoating with something suitable after degreasing.

I have just come to use the 3/8" draw bar for the first time and it is 25mm shorter than the 10mm draw bar and all my tooling is the same length, I am assuming both bars should be the same length?

You'd think so wouldn't you? If the Whitworth one is long enough, don't worry about it, otherwise you'll have to make another, its simple enough. Don't throw the old one away, you may come across a piece of tooling which needs a short drawbar. My experience is that not all tooling has the same length of shank.

I have never used the imperial drawbar on my WM16 so had to find it and compare with the metric one that lives in the machine. The imperial bar is 6mm shorter than the metric one, not the 25mm you have found , the metric one seems to be a better quality too. I think I would be asking Warco to replace it.
