No, but I'd be interested in learning more about it.

As a matter of interest what scale is the steam roller?
It might also be worth considering the choice between a roller or a traction engine, something I considered when deciding eventually to build a 3" Burrell Single Crank Compound. I went with the traction engine as it was more versatile especially on road runs or moving round the rally grounds.

I love the look of these tandem steam rollers and if you go Googling there are lots of photos for inspiration. It would certainly look well on a hall table and make quite a conversation piece when not being run.

That looks like a very interesting project Dave. At 737mm long the model would be similar in size to some of the small 1 1/2" scale engines.

A roller generally gets more interest though for being different.

This roller is based on the Bill Harris design as Mr De Waal states on the drawing. I have been working on one to the Bill Harris original dwgs for some years, on and off. The original is 1 1/2" scale, but not based on any one prototype. It has elements of Lindhof and Iroquois rollers. The boiler design in the original dwgs is set up for Sterno type canned heat fuel (these days, chafing dish canned heat canisters from a restaurant supply firm may be more available). The bottom tubesheet is quite low relative to the bottom of the firebox. I converted the design to gas firing but find that the firebox height is really too low for the "Marty" burners I am using and far too low for coal firing. Also having major issues with getting the copper fire tubes sealed to the steel tube plates - modern copper water pipe sold here is not ductile enough, apparently. I will get there eventually but there have been issues. The other thing this design would benefit from is some sort of brake or lock on the main roller- the thing wants to roll away whenever the steam is shut off to the engine. I've got couple of wood wedges under the roller doing this job at the moment. (maybe the original did too). Hopefully the re-draw by Mr De Waal addresses some of the issues.

This one crops up on HMEM forum every so often with them being built from the original Bill Harris design, just watch Julius' drawings as I have seen errors and unusual methods of construction on some of his versions of models Reasonable set of photos in this PB album s169.photobucket.com/user/roller-guy/library/roller?sort=3&page=4

The plans l have downloaded from mews is not like the ones in the pictures posted ,best way l can say it looks like a rudys steam tractor to a certain degree but with a roller on the front and not wheels,l am not an expert but looking at the drawings again like jasonb said its a bit hit an miss, but will give it ago soon as l have done my steam tractor, like many on the forums l am learning as l go ,and at times need the help of the likes of jasonb who has been very kind with his advice an help and one day would like l could be of help to others in this hobby.
