Hello everyone My name is dave. I have recently moved to france from the UK. I decided to keep myself occupied for the next 12-18 months whilst living here I would strip my Princess Marina down and rebuild her to try and restore her to her former glory. I'm a relative newbie to 'the scene' so will probably have lots of questions along the way. I also have a part built 14xx which will slowly get progressed as well.
cheers dave

Hi Dave, and welcome to the Madhouse - for some anyway- and there are also many on here who actually know what they are talking about! Where are you living? I love France: we canal cruised for two years, and we finished up near Montpellier and stayed for eight years! John

Thanks for the greeting guys.
I'm living just outside Paris, close to Saint Germain en Laye. There are definitely worse places to be in the world.. I know, I've lived in a few of them.
I'll post some photo's of the painting and re-assembly once properly underway to share the mistakes I make along the way (Hopefully might stop someone making the same ones in the future. :-D Currently at the 'degreasing/stripping paint' phase of all the components. zzzzzz, tedious but necessary.

Pete. I just found your build thread. What a project. Documenting a build like that is invaluable information and very inspirational. Fair play to you.

Thank's Dave It's certainly taking some time, one day I hope to publish a book on the build which in one of the reasons that I try to cover most things made. I'll hopefully, one day be able to use the details contained in the build thread to jolt my memory and enable me to give a more in depth description in said publication. Well at least that's the plan... Cheers Pete

Hi Dave and welcome, Don't forget that in reality your re-build actually starts with the dismantling, so do get into the habit of labeling items such as the wheel sets so that you put them back in the right place AND facing the right way around..... Photos just before you remove an item from the loco-----then again as you dismantle itself can be a great help..... Princess Marina is a well-proven loco and in effect is a shortened Black 5 having a grate and firebox approx the same, but with a smaller capacity boiler shell..... I had one for some time and really enjoyed it..... What will you do about a track to run on ??................

Sorry for delayed response guys. Just got back from nice vacation in Mexico
Pete
I think that would be a great idea and would greatly help to de-mystify loco building for newbies.
I look forward to signed copy... :-D
Delaplume.
agree 100%. my wife was very dismayed when her stash of freezer bags quickly disappeared to hold all the bits taken off at different times. shes also been my photographer due to my filthy hands. she's been very understanding considering ive been using the dining room table..... :-D
The quandry I have with some stuff is the old adage, " if it aint broken, don't fix it."
I'd quite like to re-do some of old water feed pipework to the boiler cos the existing is a little ugly, but it worked perfectly.
Due to my location/situation, for now it will be run on a rolling road until I get back to living in the UK.
I'll get my A into G and sort out photos of the process so far.

Ah !!---------- Viva Meh-heeco !!..Viva La Revolu-sheeon......tears in your eyes for La Paloma ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5L1UAGow3k)... Mariachi bands with big floppy hats, and then there's this }------- go straight to 4.23 for Joyce and me on our day off ....( youtu.be/eE78y6y6xWc )..those shoes were killing me --LoL !!.. Tip for cleaning pipework}--- use medium or fine Wire Wool, or Cillit Bang works well ( see my Bear Boiler recently at the Manchester show ), my cleaning bath holds a 50 /50 mix of Paraffin and Diesel... Keeps the cost down but works just as well as 100% parrafin keep up with your posting, eh? Alan
