I'm curently building a "Stent" T&C grinder.
The specs call for EN8 for the spindle,I am wondering if this is essential as the spindle runs in ballraces anyway.
Would it be OK to make this from EN1A which I have a reasonable supply of?
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

EN1a is more susceptable to accidental bending.

When I built my Stent I used a piece of--- EN24 or 32 or something equally as exotic and d*** hard to machine.
Lasted well though.
As it is a major piece that you dont want to have to replace in the future, if the spec calls for EN8, that is what I would use.
