I've made a good start on the backhead and it is mainly the firebox door and knee guards to go before the cab floor is fitted. The regulator handle is not very elegant as I am experimenting a bit with one that I can screw an extension into so that I don't have to reach so far into the cab to use. I will make a better-looking one to fit when the engine is not in use.

Hi Barry, It would be nice to live a bit closer to come & have a look in person, marvelous work!
On my loco the extension rod is removable very easily, it has a short drilled rod that goes over the securing nut, with a slot for the regulator handle to seat in to prevent rotation, the end closest to the boiler is externally grooved & has a part wire ring in it that is rotated to cover the slot & stop it coming off. Sorry the explanation isn’t very good & I can’t grab a photo at the moment as the loco is at dads, my wife was out a few nights ago with friends & one of them failed to stay home as she had family with Covid-19, 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬, so we are waiting to see what happens & I don’t want dad to catch it as he turned 95 2 days ago. I’ll gab a photo when I can if you are interested.
Cheers Kerrin

I think that I can envisage the fitting that you have described but would very much appreciate a picture when you can manage it. Regards, Barry

Considering that you first mentioned the engine in November 2020, your rate of progress is extraordinary! I am in awe of so many people on this website.

Unlike several on this forum, I only work on one project at a time and stick with it to completion. Also I am fortunate that after a lifetime of building i don't have to think about it, just do it.

The electrical junction box and conduits have been completed on the cab front and the windows glazed.

The cylinder cladding has been fitted. A very simple arrangement. Not at all like the complex and superb arrangement that Roger has done on his Speedy.

The loco looks superb Barry and absolutely captures spirit of the little tank engines we knew. An absolute gem.
Cheers

Looks excellent!
Now we need someone to donate a whistle valve so you feel compelled to build a loco around it to keep you occupied for another 12 months,

It's finished. It is now sporting its fire-irons on the right-hand tank top and a rerailing jack on the left-hand front running board. I'm not in a hurry to paint it and will have a break for a while. I still have to work out whether or not I will have to make a dedicated driving truck for it. It will be quite a while before it hits the track.

The rerailing jack. How they ever managed to work one of these I don't know as they are very heavy and cumbersome.

The fire-irons just sit on top of the tank.

It was a bit of a puzzle working out where to fit the injectors as it was almost impossible to fit them in their original position. As there will not be any water in the tanks I had to arrange for them to be fed from the driving truck. The water valves are mounted in the rear bunker and the handles can be turned from inside the bunker when the removable sections are taken out for driving.

Being new to the site I am slowly getting around to reading or looking at some of the post on here. I am in total awe at the quantity and quality of you work and give me something to aspire to as I build my first loco a Rob Roy.
