Well it came as news today that this years Membership Money was on hold and reducing as to however many months we were going to go without access to the site!
I was wondering how many other Clubs and Societies were doing or thinking of doing this?
Also how it will affect things going forward eventually.
David and Lily missing going out once a week on a Wednesday.

I would suggest that members should consider donating their full subscriptions anyway as membership fees rarely cover the full overhead costs of clubs and the clubs are dependent on public funds from running days to make ends meet. It will be a long time before public running starts again Jo

I think I'm with Jo on this one. But perhaps a club could invite any member who's been financially screwed by these events to make a confidential approach for a waiver of fees?

Mine is on a monthly standing order and I will keep it going.
It took a lot of persuasion to get the club to accept payments this way - for the last 500 years everyone turned up with cash or cheque - but in the 21stC things finally moved on a bit.

Mine has just been payed and, even though our club is reasonably well off compared with some I have no intention of stopping it. Hopefully by this time next year we will be getting back to normal.

Mine were all payed back in January for both clubs, no intention of suggesting a refund, both clubs will suffer with lack of profit earning opportunities.

Many clubs have cash reserves for just such an event, others don't. One thing to consider is that if you anticipate you will passenger haul on the railway 12 times or less this year, you could seek to move your PL down from Cat C to Cat B and if you are at more than £2m move to that figure as well to make a saving. Ask W-M. I have, you should. Cheers David

This might sound a bit over dramatic but my society pretty much saved my mental health. We pay our subs annually, and I'm completely content to pay the full amount this year.
I completely agree about missing the meets. I only get to go once a fortnight and I really, really miss it.

It could be read as you advising people to reduce their cover. JM

JM try . . . "you could seek to" . . . The only thing I would advise people to do is not sit on their bums doing nothing! Cheers David

I can understand the logic of moving to a "less than 12 public running events in the policy period" if the current situation means that this is likely, but reducing the indemnity limit down to £2m if higher is something different, there is always the possibility of a claim arising that requires a higher limit of indemnity whether you run once, twice, eleven or more times in the policy period. Also, some landlords, particularly local authorities, require a miimnum level of PL cover to be in place - always worth cross-checking with the lease/tenancy agreement.

Hi cdg Yes agree. Some local authorities do require more than £2m. But a couple of years ago I asked our insurers about the norm and they replied most societies are at £2m. We were at £5 at the time so a welcome reduxction was availible. My suggestionis simply to ask the question! Cheers David
