The auto feed on the MaximatV10P stopped working, it jammed the saddle solid, and the slipping clutch slipped as it should so nothing broke. Here's the apron gearbox removed from the lathe. It is a lovely piece of Austrian precision engineering. However... Here's the culprit. The tiniest piece of brass swarf got into the gearbox, found the root of the gear tooth and stopped the gearwheel dead on the transfer gear! I flicked it out with a needle file and I'll reassemble it tomorrow. Grrr...

At least it didn't shear off a tooth.

A lovely machine and yes they had one at work!!! Which after 2 years got to use as the then BOSS would only use it himself? THEN I REALIZED WHY. It was so out of alignment that I snapped 2 center drills and went for a rebuild. Then the headstock bearings went? Later Ron as most of us called him had got the position by Marrying the Principles Daughter. OUCH.
Did loads of stuff over Lunchtimes. I now have a Compact 8 E and even managed to clean up something within the 4 jaw self centering for the filing machine. Part of the Haul from the rusty Workshop stopping Jessie Progress.

David and Lily I picked up an Emco Compact 8 a few years back from a school that I visited regularly. The machine just stood idle for the four years that I visited. Having learnt that it did not comply with safety regulations that were brought in since the machine was purchased, I asked what they were going to do with it? The teacher said it was disconnected and just taking up space. He suggested that I put in a cheeky offer to the school's bursary that I duly did, and got the machine along with a full complement of accessories for it. The main drive Vee belt has a nick in it so needs to be replaced sometime soon, so I need to find a UK supplier of spares for this machine.I I see you both live in Reading. It is where I originated from before moving away in the early 70's to Mid Beds. As a lad I can remember many rides on the trolley buses until they went out of service in the early 60's, and watching Reading FC games at Elm Park way back in the day! Have been down to new stadium on a few occasions since.

Pro Machine Tools carry spares for the Compact * but I found the service good and quick from these people in Germany www.emcoshop.at/en/They seem to have bought thge rights to the hobby machine part of EMCO as I dont think they are much if any thing to do with EMCO
I bought new half nuts and some other bits and they came quickly and if I remember correctly cost me less than from Pro, but that was a couple of years ago so the exchange rate may not be favorable anymore
