Hi All, I am new to live steam, and I have an unmachined Simplex 5” kit. I have bought a new set of drawings, dimensioned in imperial fractions. How quaint! There is no fractional option on my digital displays, but I do have a fractional digital calliper. I am trying to send a message to Coniston who kindly offered to email a pdf copy of Simplex drawings to Norfolkandgood . as I have a B1 Springbok, a Speedy and a Didcot, apart from the Simplex, there is a mountain of drawings to manage. May I request a pdf copy for me, as well as any of the above models you might have in your files. I will attempt to introduce myself, if I can find the appropriate place

Hello Dave, I have sent you a separate PM. You can PM a member by clicking on their user name above their Avatar, there is then an option to send Private Message, hope you can find this.

Welcome Dave to the wonderful world of Simplex building.
I of course just had to do a redesign to get out of the ashpan problem. I moved the rear wheels back and did a box horns round it.
Mine will be a Fowler Complex.

Here is my reworked Design for Simplex which keeps most of the castings except the cylinders. These are big blocks but with smaller bores matching the Jinty and Butch and Twin Sisters. The motion is the same. Just the wheelbase measurements so that we now get an unrestricted Ashpan. Also drops straight down. Simplex is a Freelance locomotive so you basically can do whatever you like with it. David and Lily.

I think moving the axel is what Martin Evans did with the Super Simplex, that design overcame a number of problems with the original, not sure why anyone would build the original when the Super is (IMHO) a more sorted design, although as you know it can still be improved upon, look forward to seeing more progress on yours David. Joyce and I were in Germany some time ago at that huge, week-long Model Engineering show in Sintsheim, N. Germany----- www.northernsteam.com/Sinsheim.htm ------- where I saw a Club stand with a part built Simplex on display------The builder spoke some English..my Gernman then was passable, but we both spoke "Simplex" fluently !!.........I was there for nearly an hour just enjoying the camaraderie....Incedentally,those photos don't do it justice.....hero of the day ? = a young lad on ground level driving a "Rocket" loco and keeping up with all the others in his section !!

I enjoyed that. We get lovely stories from the older Reading Boys who did the trek down there in the past. What a collection of lovely machines.

I said that we were there for a week---- the steam show is only on for 3 days--for the other 2 we went into the nearby "Museum" as they call it----- David, have a look at this, it's right up your strasse ......... www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7GZFetazaY ----- and yes, you can actually go on board most of the exhibits.....We did the Concorde and the Concordski..... a wing walk on a jumbo jet ( short body version) and Joyce took the dive planes controls on a genuine German U-Boat.... albeit an ex-costal training one !! There is a V-200, prototype for the BR (W) Diesel Hydraulic locos, a sectioned Kriegslok 2-10-0 loco with moving wheels ---- a genuine knocked-out Mk6 Tiger tank.........a whole section devoted to domestic machinery down the years, Cars, trucks, planes etc, etc..but best of all was the main item on show in the centre of the entrance hall = a Rolls Royce Merlin engine in full production trim !! (Actually I think there were two ).. As they say in their booklet it's all about engineering, down the years and across all nations, regardless ... A total private venture by various entrepreneurs....See Naples, see this THEN shuffle off..!!

If there are any digital version of the drawings and articles for the Simplex or Super Simplex is it possible for someone to send me a link? I'm trying to decide on a loco to build as m first project and would like to 'build' some of it in CAD first.
Regards
Mike

Regards Mike Hi Mike can’t help on the drawings, just from my experience I’ve had both Simplex’s the super in my opinion is the better loco. Regards Chris

Chris D Hi Chris, I'm picking up a stalled Simplex build and have lost my drawings over the years, I still have the book. It would be great if you could send me a copy of the drawings over as well, I have sent you a DM. Many thanks in advance
