Hi everyone, I'm new to locomotive building, as I can't afford a copper boiler I'm leaning towards battery electric. My aim is to build a BR Class 76. I'd appreciate any thoughts on this. I'm gravitating to 4 x 120w brushed motors as they are readily available. Design of the bogies is well under way and laser cutting of the pieces planned for early next year. Before you ask, yes it's a big model in 5" gauge and it will fit in my car.

Welcome lesstoneuk, look forward to seeing progress, maybe you will start a thread on the build as it progresses, photos are always welcome. I'm sure you'll find us a helpful bunch here.

Les?
If you have not already i would seriously suggest that you get to the NRM and photo as many plans as you can get hold of. I remember going to Guide Bridge and being tsaken around the stabling point a ouple of months before they were withdrawn, and also seeing some 77s in Holland Looking forward to pictures Ron

Welcome aboard Les.
I can't build boilers either so I have bought a commercial one for my 3.5" gauge Juliet project. There is plenty to keep me well and truly busy and usually confused. However, progress is made albeit at a slow pace.
As said elsewhere, you are spoiled for choice for very well set up clubs within easy range of where you live.
Pete.
