Have you looked under 'warding files' These are the ones used by locksmiths, and a lot of them taper down virtually to a point, so should be suitable for what you want to do.

You should not use a file the same width as your slot.
I normally grind a safe edge on my files. I have also ground files down to thickness to do slots.

Not wishing to interfere but I got quite cheaply a couple of cards of small diamond files from none other than Aldi.
Thinks forward oh wizened one ( Me), my 4" diameter 1/16th slitting saw is blunt.
Thank you, Thank You

Diamond files also get rid of sharp chips in drinking glasses. Very useful for sharpening tools and hard bits that Tungsten files struggle with. Lily has one for her nails. Ones in packs are very useful.
David and Lily.

Diamond files also get rid of sharp chips in drinking glasses. David and Lily. Yes, my Mum had a diamond file, many years ago. I bought a beer glass with a Foden steam wagon on it, and it had a nasty bit of glass flash. So quick as a -erm- flash, I clandestinely borrowed Mum's nail file and filed it smooth. It wore the file out... I only told her after she'd sent it back to claim a new one...

My friendly chemist says that they are a type of glass or ceramic, anyway they do work very well, and I would never go back to a steel one again
best wishes or a very happy Christmas, and a better new year
