'Feck' is the standard Irish version of a very rude word, but isn't really regarded as swearing over there.

Napoleon also introduced driving (actually riding) on the right. Historically, riders rode on the left side of the road so their right (sword) hand was correctly positioned to fend off attacks. Boney thought he would thwart the English by riding on the right.

All this has got me wanting to prove that the French haven't removed my longbow finger.

And people ask why I don't like imperial measurements en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foot_(unit)It appears that before 1959 a yard / foot / inch was a different length than it is now

Yes, I can remember when the inch was adjusted to be exactly 2.54 cm. Before that, it was some obscure ratio (if 1:2.54 is not obscure enough).

My education started in imperial units. I could never get my head around all the different multipliers, 16oz 14lb etc. Then they started teaching metric, every multiplier was the same, 10. Suddenly everything made sense

I did a double check and the car is indeed French! We are in our USUAL parking space outside Berkshire Metals. I couldn't resist the state of the private Road. Gets Questioned by a BMW about taking photos! If I lived in this Road I would help fill in the holes! It drove off. Muddy water on BLACK!!! CAPTIONS. David and Lily.

Here in 'The Frozen North' we hear a lot about how, in the South "The roads are paved with gold". This, though metaphorically, may be true. At least our roads in the North are cobbled! Guy

But did you read that Oxford Univeristy are dropping miles, feet, arcres and gallons etc. Many years ago, in my MoD days, I had to go through a pile of project specification docs converting things like monitor screen dimensions from inches to mm. So the the US-based bidders could specify their offerings back to us in inches...

We returned to the Workshop the other morning to discover someone had indeed been enjoying breakfast of Beans. The smaller of the body's had in there haste (NOT TO BE SEEN) knocked over their seat of Buffer. Strangely several clamps which had been missing now turned up on their construction. Together with several other items also lost! In their excitement of having a REVIVED PROJECT to work on, and the drawing open overnight. Had in fact got it back to front. But on reflection, and after measuring there was now room for a rear sandbox. The 4 being missing for months? I think they struggled with the big black clamp. Borrowers! David and Lily. "Lily please put Small Clamps on our current shopping list."
