The Chester Lux milling machine has been idle for a year or two since arriving here (second hand) but I finally got around to sorting it out so I could get some of the bigger jobs done while the club workshop is still closed. I found it would run in Low and High gears but wouldn't select the Medium setting. Just done an oil change today thinking it might be a bit thick - it was ok although a bit of gloop came out. However even with the new oil there's still no luck in selecting Medium gear. Does anyone have any experience of this please or any suggestions short of a full stripdown. Thanks. Ian

I'm afraid I can't help with the particular machine, but I am sure a phone call to Chester Tools would get some helpful advice.
Bob.

Ian Have you clicked the link, Ian? It's the Grizzly G1004 parts list that shows a few exploded diagrams. It's definitely not a Chinese translation, Grizzly manuals are rewritten by the company.

Grizzly manuals are a lot better than the ones from the likes of Chester Warco etc as they seem to have been written by someone who has actualy taken the Chinese made machines apart, Grizzly dont seem content to accept the Chinese written manuals unlike our UK importers do. You just have to find the equivalent machine number. The Warco manual for the WM16 mill I have is pretty poor but the Grizzly G0704 machine manual is actualy very helpfull( it had proper wiring diagramns which helped me a a lot. Optimum Maschinen also have pretty good manuals if they sell an equivalent to your machine.

Thanks Steve and Jon. I hadn't realised the Grizzly manuals were different. The Grizzly G0761 is very similar, main difference being the control panel, so have downloaded that. Unfortunately not much help with the gear problem but much clearer diagrams and better information so it will come in very useful. Ian
