Thank you for letting me join this forum I served my time on steam as an heating engineer when all the schools and public schools and buildings were heated by steam , i later worked i maintenance for the rest of my working life. My hobby was boating and driving but in my mid 70s, both have been taken away from me through illness so I thought I would build a steam loco and chose the Fayette 2.1/2” scale model and see how I get on I have been through the modelling phase before but not like this. But I will see how I get on this time by next year.

Fantastic, welcome Broom. My grandfather worked on the same systems; they had a steam heating system at Boscombe Down with some huge boilers feeding the circuit. Even the hangars were heated from a single boiler house.
Where are you located?
I look forward to seeing your Fayette come together.

Hi I live in Anlaby just west of hull and at 75 had to find a new hobby as my illness has taken my driving licence away forever so I used to do a bit of modelling when I was a lot younger so here I am with half a loco a small lathe. And my gas welding gear so as soon as my son brings me the loco and all the bits up from Surrey at Christmas I shall make a start . First will be to make the boiler a bit small to the 30ft lankies I used to retube in my 20s but I will get into it. I have been on YouTube and had a good look which was handy and helpful and with the knowledge on the forum behind me I cannot lose. Regards. Broom

Hi Broom
Welcome to the forum and the wonderful hobby of model engineering. You'll find that any questions that you may have during your build will most likely have answers here, just ask the folk and I'm sure you'll get a response soon enough. John Baguley (on this forum) is the man to ask for anything specific to 2 1/2 gauge.
good luck with the build
Pete

But I will see how I get on this time by next year. Hi folks , now Christmas is over for another year I thought I would get my shed sorted out for my Fayette strip and rebuild. I say that as the plans say on the envelope 5 shillings . And this engine I bought of a gentleman from down south from eBay. He has had it for 18 years and never got round to do anything on it . firsrt job was to cut a piece of ply to hold the plans this was the easy bit, then get down to striping the bits off the engine as it looked though it had been in operation before and was been rebuilt. However I am happy with that it looks as most of the bits are there and a lot more besides, I found out very quickly the last person to work on it could not use a rule , must have had a tape with an elastic band on it but as it turned out that can be rectified with a new peice of tube , However he knew how. To use a hammer as the marks on the cylinder plates were well bruised however I have managed to successfully refurbish one plate top which took me all afternoon and a late dinner but I really enjoyed it I will post photos as soon as I find my go pro as that sends them out a low numbers I think I will try and do a weekly post with photos see how I get on.
