Hello folks, would any kind person be able to supply a drawing / dimensions for the globe shape snifting valves found on A1X smokebox saddle 5" gauge please? Many thanks, Phil.

Hi Phil,
I think you can find drawings in F C Hambleton's book "Locomotives Worth Modelling". They were a standard Stroudley fitting, but (unless we are talking about different things) they are displacement lubricators rather than snifting valves. A loco with slide valves working vertically doesn't normally need a snifting valve as the valves fall away from the portface when steam is off.

Hi this should be the drawing of the lubricator from Hambleton's book. I think as Malcolm says it was a standard fitting for all Stroudley's engines, but do check.

The Hambleton drawing is for the A1 terrier with these 'Roscoe' fittings on the front of the smoke box at it's lowest level.
For the A1X , there were different lubricators on each side of the smoke box. My Boxhill thread has pics and a sketch of those I made for 'Stepney'.
